    1. [MATTINGLY] William Matheny/John Matley/John Matlin
    2. I came across several interesting entries for name variations of Mattingly that might be of interest. Will of William Matheny 12 Nov 1705 of Stafford County, VA - wills items to "eldest son Danl. Matheny", "second son John Matheny", "third son James Matheny", "unto my daughter Mary Matheny", "Wm. Mason my wifes son", and "my loving wife Frances". This is from "Deeds and Astracts of Stafford Co, VA 1699-1709" There is also a John Matley who receives tobacco in the will of John Bowen of County of Rappahannock on 5 Nov 1671 from "Rappahannock County Deed Boo 1672-1676 Part 1". There is a Thomas Mannynge who witnesses the transfer of land between David and Mary Fox and John Richards and Edard Clark on 22 November 1656. This from "Rappahannock County Deed Book 1656-1664 Part II". There is a detailed will of John Matlin 7 Feb 1683/4 of Rappahannock Co, VA who names his his sons "William Matlin, John Matlin, and Henry Matlin". William is to chose a guardian until he reaches the age of 21 and Henry and John are to taken care of by David Sterne until "Henry Matlin and John Matlin reach the age of one & twenty years". No wife mentioned. This from "Wills of Rappahannock County, VA, 1656-1692". There are multiple entries for a John Matley/Motley/Mothlin/Matlin from about 1650 until his death in 1683. I don't know if they are the same person or not. Any takers on these? Paul Mattingly Atlanta, GA
