    1. Re: [MATTINGLY] Re: Wm Mattingly d 1759 ?
    2. William, This stuff cracks me up. I have not heard about the William who married Jane White but I noticed that HEM reports an article that appeared in the "Washington Star" in DC in 1916. The article reported that Edward Mattingly was born in 1779 (he had a brother named George who was born in 1801) and was the son of a William Mattingly who was married to Jane White.. Edward married Anne Knott in 1812 and had the 4 children that you named. The article claims that it was Edward's brother, Baptist Mattingly, that moved to Bardstown, KY and had 9 sons. HEM didn't give much credence to this article and I believe that Charley Moore also read the original articles and didn't have much faith in them being accurate. Now I don't have any info on these people but I suppose that William could have been the son of John of John of Cezar. This William was born in 1747 and would have been 32 when Edward was born. This William did have a brother named John Baptist (son of John of Cezar) but I think that most people believe that this is the John Baptist that married Dykeander Boswell in VA (HEM cites this as a ?? possibility). So we are back to the question of which John Baptist went to KY and this one apparently believes that it was the John Baptist of John of Cezar. Remember, my mother always said that there is always some truth to every rumor or myth.
