I found a court deposition of John son of James of Thomas and Robert son of James of Thomas in the Charles County Land Records on 20 June 1769. Their ages are listed as 27 and 32, respectively. HEM lists their year of births as c. 1738 and c. 1740. This record would indicate that their birth years should have been 1742 and 1737, respectively. John and Robert are giving depositions regarding the location of a piece of property. I don't know why they would be in Charles County as I have indications that they were in SMC. Of course, these counties are right next door and they very possibly still had family ties there. Paul Mattingly Atlanta, GA
