Including my grandmother, Myrtle Mattingly who died in Barberton, OH 09 May 1975. Charles Browning is a funeral home director (owner) who has collected obituaries from the Evansville newspapers of residents of the tri-state area (IL, KY & IN). The obits include close family members of local residents who died away from Evansville, like my grandmother. The database is somewhat unique in that you can search by survivors as well as by descendant. A very good friend of mine and my wife was Joseph Fabian Mattingly who died 05 May 2000. I worked with Joe in our local chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. Joe was a wonderful person. He had a nephew, Don, that played baseball for the New York Yankees. I have a story to tell about Joseph Fabian Mattingly and his family. I knew Joe about 20 years in the SAR Chapter. I knew another Joe Mattingly that was on the Evansville Fire Dept. The Fire Dept. Joe was involved in local politics as was I. He taught me a few political "tricks of the trade" in campaign management. Sometime after the fire fighter Joe passed away on the 4th. of July 1988 (he is included in the "Browning Obits"), I was visiting Joe of the SAR (a weatherman by profession) at his home. We were talking about the Mattingly families of Evansville. I asked Joe how he was related to Joe the fireman. He smiled and said that they were brothers! Their father was also named Joseph (05 Feb 1970 "Browning Obits" - 2 sons named Joe listed). Joseph Fabian Mattingly (weatherman/family historian/SAR member) wrote a nice history of his ancestor, another Joseph Mattingly and his wife Hessina Hinton. This Joseph (born abt.1760) was the son of Richard Mattingly (born abt.1720) and brother to my ancestor James Barton Mattingly (born abt.1764). So, the two Joe Mattingly brothers were my cousins.
