    2. William R. Mattingly
    3. I've been following these reports on Charles with interest. I'm about at the conclusion that Charles was not a son of Benedict Mattingly and Elizabeth McPherson. Based on the 1840 census Benedict and Elizabeth had two sons prior to 1840; one was Alexander Sylvester and the other was Pius Dominick. I think Charles was a son of Benedict Mattingly, born about 1799, who was in turn a son of Joseph Mattingly and grandson of John Baptist who died in 1817 and a 1st cousin to the Benedict that married Elizabeth McPherson. That is the relationship if that Benedict (1811) was actually a son of Barnett/Bernard (brother to Joseph). These are my current opinions of-course and subject to change if we can find some evidence of Charles parentage or the parentage of Benedict 1811 that contradict this opinion. ********************************** > > Charles Mattingly married Elizabeth C.
