William > I'm thinking that George was not originally from Nelson County. Isn't this > him in Washington County during both 1820 and 1830? > That's right William, the first two census listing (1820 & 1830) I posted in my last e-mail were from Washington Co. I see you did not cut and add them to this e-mail or did you just not get them? In 1840, the first Nelson Co year he is listed with a younger wife thatn the 1820 adn 1830 Washington Co, KY census. That's part of my reason for thinking that his first wife could be Elizabeth Buckman who he married in Washington Co, then he married Catherine Miles in Nelson Co, KY later > 1820 George between the ages of 18 and 26 (should have been about 23 if born > in 1797 as suggested by the 1850 census). > 1830 George between the ages of 30 and 40. Should have been about 33. > Do believe you have the math right but the range in the 1820 census was 16/26 (1794-1804) and would be a year off if b. 1793. But for a 1820 census record, one year is close enough for me. There was an added category in 1820 of 16/18 which often had children listed twice if they were in this category for the next category was not 18/26 but reverted to 16/26. The category's for males only was 0/10, 10/16, 16/18, 16/26, 26/45 etc. In 1830 George was listed in the 30/40 category and would have been 33 as you say. > George apparently relocated to Nelson County sometime between 1830 and 1840 > as he is in Nelson by the 1840 census. > > I agree and I bet the KY tax lists for Washington and Nelson Co's could pin > point that even closer. In looking at the possibilities of parents in Washington County there are > simply too many to speculate. Yep, and that is why I sidestepped any speculation as to who his parents might be. I did not have the time to layout a similar census evaluation to at least eliminate who had no children in the right category. Can be done but will take some time Bob Alvey > > > ***************** > This sure seems to fit and would fill on of the missing slots in the 1840 > Nelson Co, KY listing for George Mattingly.
