    3. Looking at the 1820 census for Washington County; there are two William Mattingly's, both aged 26 but under 45. One of these appears to be William, Jr., son of William, died 1817 (except that I was under the impression that he was in Missouri by this time). If this is William, Jr., it shows that he had 4 sons under age 10. I can only account for two of them Walter and Simeon. He also had 2 daughters under 10; Louisa and Mary Lavina. There are three other girls - One aged 10 to 16 and two 16 to 18 (one must have been his wife). The other two girls must have been sisters as in 1820 William, Jr. was only about 26 years old himself. Has anyone identified these two William Mattingly's on the 1820 census? I went this route because it appears possible that the William who married the Vessell's girl could also have been a son of William, Jr.

    3. O'Rourke, in his MARYLAND CATHOLICS ON THE FRONTIER says that William Mattingly son of William Mattingly d. 1817 and Elizabeth Clark married Elizabeth Catherine Manning Feb 15 1814 in Perry Co. Missouri, so he was already in MO. in 1820. His first child is listed as being Walter F. born c. 1814, Perry Co., MO.JB ----- Original Message ----- From: "William R Mattingly" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, August 12, 2001 4:11 PM Subject: Re: [MATTINGLY] William Mattingly d 1817 > Looking at the 1820 census for Washington County; there are two William > Mattingly's, both aged 26 but under 45. 3. Maybe one of them is William Mattingly b 1777, m. Henrietta Buckman in 1811, Nelson Co. at the age of 34. IN 1820 he would have been 43 yrs old with one son by Henrietta, Cyprian P. born Sept 16, 1812, Washington Co. I always thought he should have been married before this late marriage, but do not have any documentation of such.
