    1. Re: [MATTINGLY] George Mattingly & Catherine Miles
    2. William R Mattingly
    3. I'm thinking that George was not originally from Nelson County. Isn't this him in Washington County during both 1820 and 1830? 1820 George between the ages of 18 and 26 (should have been about 23 if born in 1797 as suggested by the 1850 census). 1830 George between the ages of 30 and 40. Should have been about 33. George apparently relocated to Nelson County sometime between 1830 and 1840 as he is in Nelson by the 1840 census. In looking at the possibilities of parents in Washington County there are simply too many to speculate. ***************** This sure seems to fit and would fill on of the missing slots in the 1840 Nelson Co, KY listing for George Mattingly. Because Elizabeth Ann is married in Nelson Co in 1849, she is not on the 1850 Nelson Co, KY census with her father but in the 1850 Nelson Co, KY census with her husband William R Gates age 28, Elizabeth age 17. George's family is in the 1860 Daviess Co, KY census but the Gates family is still in Nelson Co. in 1860, William R Gates age 38, Elizabeth A age 28, Thomas M age 9, George E age 7, Eliza age 6, John age 5, Truman age 3, Susan E age 2, William age 6/12. I found William Gates and family in the 1870 Nelson Co, KY census. >>1840 Nelson Co, KY >>George Mattingly >>3 males 0/5 (1835 - 1840) T (1835), F 1837), M (1839) >>2 males 10/15 (1825 - 1830) M (1825), Richard (1830) >>1 male 15/20 (1820 - 1825) W (1824) >>1 male 20/30 (1810 - 1820) ? >>2 males 40/50 (1790 - 1800) George 1793, ? >>1 female 0/5 (1835 - 1840) ? >>2 females 5/10 (1830 - 1835) Elizabeth Ann (1833), ? >>1 female 10/15 (1825 - 1830) F (1827) >>1 female 30/40 (1800 - 1810) Catherine 1805 (m. 1832)
