Dan and Ralph, I'm glad you think this may be a line worth pursuing. There is definitely a relationship between these two families, the William Mattingly d. 1817 family and the James Vessels family whose granddaughter married Bridget Anna Vessels. It was pointed out to me that the James Mattingly and the William Mattingly found with Elisha Vessels on the 1823 Perry County, Mo St. Mary Church census were sons of William Mattingly d. 1817. and I found a reference to that in O"Rourke's MARYLAND CATHOLICS ON THE FRONTIER, along with the reference that Elisha Vessels was the son of James Vessels, Sr. That may be irrevalent except that it shows that these families had a relationship. And James Vessels and William Mattingly d. 1817 shared grandchildren if William b. 1813-1814 is the son of William d.1817 and his wife Nancy. I have William died 1817 as the son of Ignatius, died 1789, son of Thomas II.also. JB *************************************************************** I have this William as b. 1741, d. 1817, and the son of Ignatius (1704-1789), the son of Thomas II. Does this jibe with everyone else's information?
