The site here may be of value to some. This gentleman, Charles Browning, has posted information on many deceased persons including several hundred Mattingly's. <http://browning.evcpl.lib.in.us/>
I need to make a comment here. I just check our list website and noticed not many people are using it. Would every one on the list at least click this link and take a look. I keep this link at the bottom of every message for convenience. Rootsweb Host http://resources.rootsweb.com/surnames/m/a/MATTINGLY/ If any one wants to help build the web page I made for this list with pictures, links, comments and brick walls, than ask me to post them on the Mattingly web page, I have not made one yet because no one has ask me to post any thing, any how take a look at the home page and some of the other names there, the Webb and Matney pages have lots of comments to give ideas . The genealogy community is titled to cover only my lists with the names listed on my website. "Passing Generations 1885-1903" by Carolyn Wimp. Thursday, April 6, 1899 Mrs. Susan CARRICO died at the home of Wilse MATTING- LY, near St Mary in Marion Co. last Wednesday. Was the widow of Green Carrico. She was 96 years old. Would someone know who Wilse Mattingly is and his connection to Mrs Susan Carrico? Thanks, Betty
Hello one and all. After 9 years with the same dial-up ISP, I am finally going to a wireless T-1 connection. My new email address is dennismattingly@hotmail.com . My office address remains unchanged and is dennis.mattingly@fayette-co-oh.com. I will be disconnecting the old eri.com address within a few weeks. Thanks Dennis Mattingly
Leonard and William Mattingly were sons of John Mattingly and Sarah Wheatley. William Mattingly and Barbara Spencer were two of my 3rd gt grandparents and I'll be happy to share what I can. I maintain a lot of my data on Rootsweb of Ancestry.com and if you go to <www.rootsweb.com> and run a search for one of the names you've listed you'll find that data under the file name of Cezar. Be glad to send you the file if wanted and would appreciate learning from you as well. I lose a lot on Leonard's line and have run across no descendants as yet. Hope you are one.
Can I have the line for LEONARD MATTINGLY (born abt. 1811)who married NANCY SPENCER? and the line for WILLIAM MATTINGLY(born abt 1807) who married BARBARA SPENCER? Both were living in Breckinridge or Grayson co. in KY in 1850.
Judith: This would be 10. Cezar 9. John + Grace Brewer 8. John Baptist + Elizabeth ??? 7. Henry born 3 Jul 1750 + Honora Durbin 6. John, bc1773 + Onea [Honora] Arnold 5. James, bc1805, Md 6. Christopher b1829 + Theresa Durbin Don't pay any attention to the generation number on the left - it can change for each searcher. Dan. I suppose they all went back to school and will be postin on weekends and the holidays. And, they must all be in agreement with my outline of the Mattinglys. I even went searching, google wise, and found Jack Mattinglys web site that covered about 5 or 6 generations back to 1850. I sent him 5 more generations and he came back with - I have all that information. Guess he didn't want to give out too much at one time. charley In a message dated 9/26/2003 1:10:40 AM Eastern Daylight Time, dj@valiant.wvi.com writes: > Eve` one on vacation ? > <G> > Dan

Hello Listers ~ I'm new to this list. Seeking information about Campbell Mattingly b KY about 1848-1850. He resided in Simpson Co, MS in 1850. Thanks for any help. AJ
Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe this is Mary Eleanor Hunter and children. I have that she married 9/12/1839 Nelson Co to Thomas Mattingly [c 1790-bef 1850] son of James Mattingly and Mary Swan. Thomas married first to her sister Jemima Hunter. Mary Eleanor Hunter married first to Ignatius Knott 7/25/1826 and I beleive that the Knott children listed in the 1850 census were hers from this marriage. Judith and all: Judith recently mentioned to me a Thomas R. Mattingly (c-1842) who was married to Mary Josephine Hagan (c-1846). Thomas R. is found as a eight year old on the 1850 census of Nelson COunty, Kentucky with the family which follows: Mary E. Mattingly 44 Elizabeth 20 Sarah 10 Thomas R. 8 Theresa 6 Margaret E. Knott 20 Mary E. Knott 16 Jemima Knott 13 James Clarkston 45 Can anyone identify this family and connect Mary E. with a husband?
Sending this just in case it may ring a bell with someone. I am fairly certain the descendants attached to this man are correct. He was obviously a son of John M. Mattingly but I am still investigating to determine if that was John Miles Mattingly, as I currently carry him. His obituary, forwarded by Dolores Bohn, was in The Lebanon Enterprise, Friday, 11-30-1945. "C. H. MATTINGLY, 91, EXPIRES AT LORETTO - CHARLES HENRY MATTTINGLY, 91, died Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at his home a mile from Loretto, on the Raywick Road. Death was due to the infirmities of age. Until recently, he had been in fair health but had been under a physician's care for several weeks. Mr. Mattingly was born at Holy Cross on September 13, 1854, a son of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Mattingly, long deceased. Practically all his life was spent as a farmer in the Loretto section, and he was married four times. A number of children survive, including Miss Rosie Bell Mattingly, Tom, Pete and Monroe Mattingly of Raywick, Mrs. George Mattingly of Finley, and two small children, at home. One brother also survives. Requiem Mass was intoned Monday morning at 8 o'clock at St. Charles Church by the Rev. Fred W. Dudine, and burial was in St. Charles Cemetery." The 1880 census finds Charles and Sarah in Loretto, Marion County, Kentucky with three children: Thomas; Monroe; and William. Charles was in the same location in 1900 with a wife named Lila, and five children at home: Alphonsus; Peter; Robert; Kate; and William. This William of 1900 was only two years of age and obviously not the same child named William on the 1880 census. The child named Alphonsus was of the near correct age to have been this earlier William. Perhaps his name was William Alphonsus but I carry him without the name William. The 1910 census finds Charles in the same area married to Lilla, age 44. Children in the home were Bob 20 (Robert); Kate 14; Will 11; and Eliza 6. By 1920, Charles wife's name was Lillie and I suspect this was the same wife as in the earlier census records as her age matches. At this time the children at home were: Pete; Eliza; George; and Mary. The 1930 census finds Charles aged 76 and married to 30 year old Mamie. There were three step-children in the home: Georgia Ray 12; Steve Ray 10; and Kelly Ray 8. Here are the children "I think" belonged to Charles Henry Mattingly. Thomas 5-3-1876 Monroe 1878 Alphonsus Apr. 1881 Peter Lee 6-28-1884 Robert Apr. 1890 Kate Aug. 1896 William June 1898 Eliza 1904 George 1905 Mary 1907 Two other children have been attributed to Charles but they do not appear on the 1920 census: Joseph F. 10-13-1916 and Josa M. 5-20-1922. (This latter child might have been Rosie Bell but I'm not sure at this stage and Rosie Bell never appeared on a census unless she was Kate or Mary; possibly Eliza.
