    3. John, I still struggle with HTML and while I've gotten approval for a website on Rootsweb, I haven't done anything with it yet. I'm going to take a course at college on HTML but it wasn't offered this semester. Even with that page though, Rootsweb doesn't want the files there. If you go to www.rootsweb.com, you'll find a search engine there where you can key in the name of the person you want to find and that name will come up for every person ever recorded on Rootsweb for that particular name by all researchers who have placed their GEDCOM files on rootsweb. Unfortunately, if you key in something like William Mattingly, you'll get several hundred results.

    3. Appreciate the numerous comments on Allen Mattingly. I have George E. and Anna Carrico with a son named George Allen. This must be the man in the obituary but the reference to "Webster" was confusing. Many thanks to both Dolores and Judith for the many obituaries, marriage, birth notices, etc. As I am able to identify the folks, I'm including them in my files which are posted at Rootsweb and can be downloaded there. I know that sometimes a high degree of sadness comes when reading an obituary of a recently lost loved one and I try not to publish such as these. If any of those I do post in the files cause distress, please let me know so I can remove them.

    3. William, I think there is confusion here about Webster, Kentucky versus Webster, County, Kentucky. Webster appears to me to be in Meade or Breckinridge Counties. Here's the mapquest link. http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?country=US&countryid=250&addtohisto ry=&address=&city=Webster&state=KY&zipcode=&submit=Get+Map I was raised in Webster Co.; it's west of there. Nearly all of the Mattinglys ever in Webster County were William C descendents (like us) who spilled over from Union Co. I can't place the George E. you referred to in Clay (my hometown) but I'll ask my aunt. I'm curious now. But we're getting thin on folks who would recall him. 3. William, I think the "Allen" Mattingly may be George Allen Mattingly 1908-1954 son of George Edward Mattingly and Anna Bernard (Barbara) Carrico, and the "This County" he was reared in may refer to Marion County. George Allen Mattingly was buried at St. Charles. George A. Appears on the 1910 Marion County census as George A. age 6. son of George E. and Anna E. 3. I had to go back and review a lot of older e-mails but discovered that we have discussed this Thomas Mattingly and Jemima Hunter in the past. It seems Charlie has compiled a bit of data on this line, as has others. I appreciate the comments and I suppose this is one of those 'unknown' lines that I have not pursued. I think someone once said that Thomas was a son of James Mattingly and Mary Swan.

    3. Thomas R. Mattingly and Jemima Hunter had a son named John who was born in 1821. This family lived in Nelson Co. KY. I don't know any more about this John but the fact that he named a son Hunter makes me think it's possible. ----- Original Message ----- From: "William R Mattingly" <wmatting@cablenet-va.com> To: <MATTINGLY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, December 14, 2003 10:12 PM Subject: [MATTINGLY] John Mattingly c-1821 - c-1879 > I thought at one time, that I had this John Mattingly identified but I > believe I've been incorrect. 3. Karen, thank you for the obit on Mary Frances Downs Mattingly. I had not seen this one before. I have only sparse information on this Lois Frances Mattingly Nicholas at this time. The last reference I have for the apparent husband of this particular Lois (Charles A. Nicholas) was that in 1953 he was a Master Sergeant in the Army and stationed at Fort Kobbe, Panama Canal Zone. Still don't know if he was married at the time. Every little bit helps and this adds a lot.
