    1. James & Susan MATTINGLY
    2. Finally! I found my James & Susan as MATTINGLEY on the 1860 DC census, along with 6 children, ages 4 months to 13. James is 27 and Susan is 28. Would these children be hers, theirs, or belong to a relative & they're just "keeping" them for awhile, I wonder. (Susan was married once before to a DOTZLER or DUTZLER.) The 3 children I'm looking for weren't born until 1865 - 1870. These are the same 3 children who show up in Pennsylvania (1880) with their mother & step-father Asbury VERMYLLION. Any ideas where to look now? Thanks for any input. Lynda Snider

    1. Ida Mattingly
    2. "Meade County, Kentucky Records Vol 3 1885-1934 Marriages" by Wathena Kennedy Miller. License date Aug 9-- Hugh Pendleton BUCKLER, of age, and Ida May EDMONDS, of age (Louisville, Ky), married Aug 12, 1902 by B. F. Hagan. I have Hugh Pendleton Buckler married to Ida Mattingly on same date as above. I do not have a source for this and now I am wondering if he was even married to an Ida Mattingly. Would anyone know? Thanks, Betty

    3. I find myself a little confused about recent posting concerned with Cosmos Mattingly, In one place Cosmos Mattingly has been referred to as the son of Felix Mattingly and Mathilda Spalding. In another place a Cosmas Mattingly is referred to as the father of Phillip Mattingly who is identified as a black widower, with children referred to as black Later he seems to be remarried -- to a mulatto and has several mixed blood children. Were Felix Mattingly and Mathilda Spalding black?

    2. Hello William---- Again, thanks for the note about Cosmas Mattingly in the 1910 census information. Could you provide any other information about Cosmas from this census entry? That this was Cosmas Mattingly, son of Felix and Matilda Spalding Mattingly, seems certain enough although I was admittedly surprised to find him there. >>

    3. I was just discussing this same issue with Judith. Looks like Mary to me and I was doubting the maiden name of Laville anyway.

    3. I tend to believe you're right about Laville not being Mary's maiden name Judith. It really doesn't make a lot of sense that her children would carry her maiden name although I do understand why they would have incorrectly been listed as Mattingly's on one census record. At no time have I seen any of them listed as Brown's and have begun to doubt she was ever married to a Brown.

    3. Forgot to mention that the 1880 census of St. Genevieve County, Missouri shows Emanuel and Emma Cissell with two children: Joseph E. c-1878 and Louisa 3 months. This gives a total of six known children for this couple. I think Joseph E. was previously unknown, at least to me.
