One of our gracious cousins has sent me a packet of Daviess County, Kentucky death certificates, some of which I can't identify the persons of. Maybe some of these will be helpful to others. I am of-course, happy to share any of these. *********************************** Annie Mae Mattingly born 2-17-1918 died 7-21-1918. Father: John Mattingly Mother: Frozie Haynes Johnathan C. Mattingly was the son of Thomas Roland Mattingly and Sarah G. Roberts, line of Thomas Mattingly, II. I might add that my Gt Gt Grandfather, Robert L. Mattingly (husband of Sarah Ann Arms) apparently died in Owensboro, Daviess County, Kentucky because his death certificate is also on file there. The family lived in Grayson County and I had thought he had died there.
Betty, I appreciate your looking. I find J. M. Mattingly aged 22 and F. K. Mattingly aged 24 in the home of Mitchell and Sarah Brown in District 2 of Daviess County. Ky. during 1860. But in 1870 a James Mattingly, aged 32, is living in the home of George Austin Mattingly. His relationship is not stated. ******************************************* > William, here is how I interpret the 1860 for George Austin: > > 1860 > Kentucky > DAVIESS > OWENSBORO P O Pg 776 HH 911 > Geo Mattingly, 57 Farmer > Nancy, 52 Domestic Duty > John, 28 Farmer > Harriett, 25 Domestic Duty > Ellen, 23 Domestic Duty > Milton, 22 Farm Hand > Mary A, 20 Domestic Duty > Nancy, 16 Domestic Duty > Patrick, 14 Domestic Duty > All born Ky > > I didn't see the J M on the 1860 that you mentioned. The 1850 census shows George and Nancy with a 12 year old son named Milton who I believe was George Milton Mattingly. So far I have not been able to access the 1860 census image for George although the index shows him there as well as a Milton aged 22 and a J. M. aged 22. The 1870 census shows George (his wife deceased) with a son named James aged 32 but no Milton in the home. My reason for looking for this James M. Mattingly is to connect him with a wife. The 1880 Whitesville, Daviess County, Kentucky Census includes James Mattingly, a white male, age 42 (circ 1838) with a 26 year old (circa 1854) wife, Clarer J., born in Indiana. A death certificate for a Clara J. Mattingly, who died on March 7, 1923 at age 68 years, 11 months, 14 days. She was the daughter of Jas. E. Pidgeon and Eloise Irwin, both born in Ohio. Clara was also born in Ohio. She was widowed and lived in the Stanley community. G. A. Mattingly of Stanley was the informant. I'm trying to determine of George Austin had a son named James and if he married Clara Pidgeon.

Elizabeth I checked the 1840 census for Prince George's and Sarah was listed as head of house hold. I found no other Mattingly's in that county. MALES: under 5 = 1; 20 to 30 = 7; 40 to 50 = 1 FEMALES: 20 to 30 = 1; 40 to 50 = 1 Free Blacks MALE: Under 10 = 1; 10 to 24 = 1; 24 to 36 = 1 FEMALES: Under 10 = 1; 10 to 24 = 1
William, Thanks for checking. If you or anyone has access to the 1840 census, would you kindly check on a Sarah Matingly who is listed in the 1840 PG County MD census. Thanks again! I have Rose Ann as the daughter of Barton and Rose Ann Jones Mattingly but married first to George Henry Warren on 10-20-1866 and then to G. W. Hayden on 10-5-1899. There was however, reportedly a Rose Ann Mattingly married to a John Hardin Davis sometime before 1830 and were in Gallatin County, Kentucky during the 1830 census. I have an idea that this Rose Ann was the daughter of Joseph Mattingly and Mary Hayden but have no proof of that. Course, this Rose Ann is much older than the one you mention. John H.
