I suspect this is the Elizabeth that married Charles Mattingly in 1810. 1. Re: [MATTINGLY] Benedict Mattingly
    2. Pat: Do you know where that Benedict fits into the Mattingly Picture. I believe we had at one time that John Baptist Mattingly who died 1759 married a Spalding. John Baptist was supposedly the son of John, son of Cezar, son of Thomas, the immigrant. However, if the son of the John Baptist and Benedict was born circa 1758, he would be over 70 when married. So I must be chasing the wrong line of Mattinglys???? 1. Re: [MATTINGLY] John Baptist Mattingly off-spring
    2. William, etal. Benedict Mattingly appears to be passed on to another John Baptist. A Couple of years ago, an attempt was made to shoe-horn him into the infamous John Baptist whose Will was made in 1817 Wash Co. and settled in1835. I do not know where he is destined to land - and would not mind having him under John Baptist and wife Spalding - if the shoe fits. Aside from that, Thanks to the Washington County History Book, here is some more on the family. To the authors, along with myself, we have no lead on where they fit in the Mattingly picture: MATTINGLY, CHARLES F. bc1785, m Elizabeth McPherson, 24 Jul 1810, WashCo and 2d m Lusudy McPherson, cous of Elizabeth, children by wife by former marriage took the Mattingly name. 3. I'm wondering if anyone has seen the following site? www.hudson-tech.com/genealogy This site states that Barnett/Bernard Mattingly, son of John Baptist Mattingly and Ann Spalding, had a son named Benedict. Barnett's wife was Priscilla Cash and that seems fairly accurate according to all I've seen. Benedict's first wife was reportedly Elizabeth McPherson and that also seems correct. I know the 1820 census shows Barnet with two sons under the age of 10 and the 1840 census shows him with four sons: Two between ages of 20 and 30; one aged 5 to 10; and one under age 5. It is obvious that Benedict could have been one of the boys under the age of 10 in 1820 and between the ages of 20 and 30 in 1840 as Benedict was born about 1811. Benedict's second wife was Martina Downs.

    3. I think it's possible that I have some mis-information on this family and maybe this can straighten it up a little. Joseph Mattingly, son of Ignatius, had a son named Joseph on the 1850 census, aged 11. By 1860 Joseph (aged 65) and his wife Elizabeth are found in Black, Posey County, Indiana. The 1870 census of Black, Posey Co. shows Joseph as a senior and his son (?) Joseph in Mt. Vernon, Posey County aged 31 and married to Catherine with children Monette 6 and Francis 1. The info I have may be wrong in that the children I thought were Joseph's and Mary Catherine Yates were: Mary E. 1863, Charles W. 1868, Thomas Gabriel 1870, Sarah E. 1873. This however is the family of a Joseph over in Martin County, IN during the 1870 census and may be the wrong Joseph assigned to Ignatius. The Joseph in Martin County was 30 in 1870 while the Joseph in Mt. Vernon, Posey County was 31. ******************************************** > > Seeking info on descendents of Joseph MATTINGLY > in Mt Vernon , Posey Co, IN > wife, Katherine Hancock > daughter Katherine Monette Mattingly > son Louis Mattingly > I have copy of 1880 census but need others. > Thank you for info on this > Alicia Dorsie-frank.
