I suppose it's possible that they weren't in Kentucky yet but I haven't explored that. Likely they were living with their parents. Not an exhaustive list but some that might should have been around were: William (son of Leonard, Jr. & born abt 1800) married unknown Monarch? This seems like a likely candidate*** I don't think he was one of the below --- William (son of Ignatius & born abt 1804) married Alice Bolling/Bowling. William (son of Richard & born abt 1788) married Nancy Cummins & may have been in Illinois already. William (son of John & born 1807) married Barbara Spencer in 1831. 3. William and J. I came across the children of John Baptist Mattingly from a long discussion back in Feb 2000, and Karen presented these children to us . I think William of this list may be the one we have been discussing here. I have his birthday listed as about 1807. What do you think? Judith Burger All Below From Karen. "Through various court papers that I found on file in the Washington County Courthouse in Springfield, KY, I found 11 or possible 12 children of John Baptist Mattingly. These papers include his 1817 Will, Inventory and Sale, Circuit Court packets and a 1835 Deed. I show his children to be: Eleanor Ryan Phillip Mattingly Barnaby Mattingly Gabriel Mattingly John Mattingly James Mattinlgy Joseph Mattingly Francis Mattingly Nancy Riney Bennett Mattingly William Mattingly" > My 1830 census records may be missing some names but from what I see, there > was only one William in Washington County, at the time, and I believe this > was the son of Leonard. J and William, it sure sounds reasonable to me that the William Mattingly that married Ann Bullock in 1827 Wash. Co. is the same one that died in 1832 Wash. Co. and left a son Thomas and wife Ann, but I can't find him on the Washington County 1830 census either. He should be there with at least his wife, if not his child/children. Thomas could have been born after 1830 and daughter/daughters only show up though. If he was 21 at marriage in 1827, he would have been only 14 on the 1820 census so in the household of his father. 3. My 1830 census records may be missing some names but from what I see, there was only one William in Washington County, at the time, and I believe this was the son of Leonard. This William was between 50 & 60 per census and about 53 based on a birthdate in 1777. There was a William in Union County, between 15 & 20 as head-of-household with only one son and a young wife. I think this was William C. and Teresa Girten however. The one son would have been John, born 1829. There was also a William in Clay County, between 20 & 30 years old but this one had a young daughter. I can't identify any others. Am I missing one somewhere? ******************* Wm. 3. Tom, I appreciate the kind words but I must be honest. Nearly everyone on Mattingly-L has contributed some part to the data. Without them I can't imagine where I would be with this stuff. There are so many others who have helped me over the years. One in particular that I must mention by name is Mary Ruth Beavens Bye. There are literally dozens more. >> I came across your Descendants of Thomas Mattingly II website. I was very >> impressed. It looks like you put a lot of time into it.

    3. I have reclaimed all the gen boards They have all changed, all the data is there = but they are clumped together The Mattingly forum was created for you all to use as your own system, you can trade pictures, geds, and such to the list, it also has a 20 meg web page with picture sharing and a data base some one can build , its all for you people and up to you if you want to use it , I only created it and told every one what it can do, you are not stuck with plain text , it is a nice setup . Any one here can think of what you would like to use it for , go ahead . Subscriptions are open, the website is open, and it also has instant chat. Fire hot - are the admins who own Genconnects and liked them where they were and how they were - as it is I have to redo about 50 webpages to correct them for new links. I thought Ancestry was the owner of Rootsweb and in turn, Rootsweb was the owner of the Genconnect boards. A couple of weeks ago I received an e-mail from Rootsweb informing me that the format was going to change and that Genforum and FamilyHistory surnames boards will be combined. I have accessed the Genconnect boards almost daily since that note and while I do find that a format change, it seems to be working fine from my perspective and I have had no problem accessing the queries or posts from any of the states or counties I regularly access. As for Genconnect being closed, I was accessing and leaving queries only 15 minutes ago. What do you mean by it is closed? As for the [email protected] group list, it only has 13 members and not a single post since January which by the way was where old Charley went when he kissed off this group. No thanks, I had enough of him when he was here. You have been trying to get us all to move over there for two years, is that what this is all about!!!!! The Yahoo boards are sparcely used and not so far I have not found Yahoo to be a great supporter of the family history buffs. I belonged to your Yahoo board for about two years and think about 4 messages were posted in that entire time. Please send another e-mail to this list and to Ancestry at the same time so all can respond to your concerns. I for one have been very happy with the new changes from the merger of these genealogy groups and would not like to see actions that impede that progress. As for the wills etc that were posted to the Genconnect locations, they are still there just in a central locations, see below. For example all of Judith Burger's wills are still there I looked at them this morning . "How do I find posts that were on the GenConnect boards for obituaries, wills, biographies, etc? The former suite of boards at GenConnect has been combined into one master board containing posts to any board in the suite. These posts can now be accessed using the "Advanced Search"' option. Click on "Advanced Search" and select the classification from the "With Message Type" drop-down box.A "Message Type" search currently returns posts from ALL boards with that classification. Refine your search by typing a surname or a county name in the "Find Messages Containing" or "With Subject Containing" box." I did this it is very simple and wills on Mattingly from various locations, KY and MD can be accessed at the same time. Please see this only as a reply trying to sort thru your comments and what I see on the boards. I for one am not convinced, if you can do that I will go your direction. By the way, what is "fire hot". I accessed 27 different locations this morning on Genconnect and all were there and all worked as expected. 3. Just to let you all know Genconnect has been taken over by My Family.com and Ancestry I am working at trying to reclaim them, but it seems all the Genconnect board admins are fire hot and the system that has them dont seem to work very well , board admins for many genconnects are up in arms , and we have been bomb barded with the new list to boot, in 2 days it had hit 2000 messages++ and we have to weed through this mess to try to reclaim our boards - My advice is not to put any thing there and use your MattinglyForum , that web board is yours and no one will take it . It has file sharing, a data base, pictures sharing, and all that, lots of bells and whistles all you need to do is use it We also have the [email protected] Genconnect is closed till further notice I started this list when every one wanted to be separate from the Matney list, I also started the Forum list when I first thought you would like to have more resources Unknown to many is = you do not have to be a member of rootsweb to glean the list , but you DO have to be a member of the Forum list to get any thing at all from it. I have the MatneyForum set to closed , as I can set this one as well once you have joined, but also suggest being a member of both lists. Any questions ? 2. From what I have seen, this Phillip Mattingly was sponsored at his baptistism by Peter Mattingly, son of James (d. 1745). There is no indication who his parents were. As Peter was his sponsor, it is unlikely that he was Peter's son. The fact that his baptist is recorded but that his parents' names are not, makes me think that he may have been an orphan of one ot Peter's brothers His brother Thomas died in 1762 and left a widow Margaret Mattingly who is also named as a sponsor of Phillip's baptism. There is some indication that Peter did have a son named Joseph and one named Ignatius. Interestingly, a Joseph (according to Rev Webb's Catholicity of KY) was also with Phillip at Pottinger's Creek in 1785. There are later documents that show that this Joseph may have been the one to marry Henrietta Taylor (and she may have been a Boone, widow of ____ Taylor). There is later records of a John B Mattingly also being at Pottinger's Creek. I agree with William, in that there is no evidence to substantiate that this Phillip was the Phillip born in 1761. However, in view of the fact that we don't come across the name Phillip again except for the grandson of Ignatius Mattingly (father of the 3 Mattinglys that came to KY), son of Zachariah Mattingly (and this Phillip had apparently died by 1823 in MD), there is good reason to believe that he may have been one in the same. There was a Thomas and Phillip Mattingly that enlisted in the Rev Army in 1778. The above Phillip would have been 17 at the time and could qualify. Who the Thomas Mattingly is with him, I don't know.
