>From what I can tell, the majority of information on one of Joseph's daughters is fairly accurate. That was Edythe Sarah. Joseph and his wives are questionable, at least in my mind. It may be that he married each of these three women but I still haven't seen absolute proof. I carry him married to the three pending corrections or evidence just so I'll have him and the data in the files. With 1st wife Helen Higgins married about 1787: Thomas 1788 Melinda c 1789 Richard c 1790 married Mary Elizabeth Smith (? Maybe?) Edythe Sarah c 1793 married c 1815 to Joseph Thralls Edward c 1796 Mary c 1798 Benedict c 1799 (seems he and Ann Nancy would be children of 2nd wife) Ann Nancy aft 1800 With 2nd wife Sarah Brewer married 1-25-1799: Anna Marie married Lewis Cissell on 6-28-1814 (at age 15/16 ? Maybe) James B. abt 1802 Lewis Jane With 3rd wife Elizabeth Hagan married 6-13-1812: Joseph c 1814 married Nancy Ann Hall on 4-18-1837 I have also seen reports of a child named Elizabeth Ellen, born about 1793 with Elizabeth Hagan but if Joseph didn't marry her until 1812, then this child would have to be a daughter of Helen Higgin's. I mention this child in my notes but not in the child list because Edythe Sarah was also born about 1793. Hopefully exposing all this will help make some corrections. ***************** >Will you list the children? >>Paul and all; there's some confusion surrounding Joseph and his wives. >For >>example, I have seen reports that he married three times - first to Helen >>Higgins with whom he had 8 children (don't know which County), 2nd to Sarah >>Brewer in Washington Co. with whom he had 4 children; and 3rd to Elizabeth >>Hagan in Nelson Co. with whom he had 1 child. Lori, glad to see you still around. I can't offer much help but I do have a Stiles Monroe Mattingly born 10-11-1881 to 9-2-1933 and the son of Cyprian Mattingly and Mary E. Harris. This is a lost line for me (and apparently others) as this Cyprian was a son of John Reece Mattingly and Elizabeth Rhodes. I had thought that Reece was a son of George Austin and Ann Nancy Johnson but this appears to not be so. Search as I may, as have many others, I can't seem to put John Reece in his proper place. Because of the name Cyprian, it seems he ought to be related somehow to Dr. Cyprian P. Mattingly but no connection has been found yet. Dr. Cyprian was a son of William Mattingly and Henrietta Buckman but no son named John R. has surfaced. Hopefully someone with more skill will take notice. I don't have a wife's name for Stiles Monroe but he apparently had a son with the same name. ******************* >I am looking for a Monroe Mattingly who had a large farm in Loretta KY. Hi, While looking through the Evening Star for DC, I found this obit. I don't know who she and her husband might be. MATTINGLY, On the morning of April 10th, 1885, SALLIE E., wife of R. F. Mattingly and daughter of John and the late Sarah Catherine Scott, in the thirtieth year of her age....(then there is a poem.) Funeral from Oak Hill cemetery chapel, Sunday, April 12th at four o'clock. Friends and relatives are respectfully invited to attend. Anybody know of her? Best, Elizabeth

Smith as marrying Elizabeth Clark second. There was also a Richard m.Eliza Hagan and had children baptised at St.Catherine Nelson Co.They were m. 1812 I have been carrying him as son of Joseph and Helen Higdon/Higgins but don't have any documentation. Also at Fairfield,Ky which is a short distance to Spencer Co on the back roads i have Alexander Mattingly who m. a Murray and has her mother in house born in Md.Havent been able to tie him to anyone. I am looking for a Monroe Mattingly who had a large farm in Loretta KY. He was born in the late 1800's to early 1900's. He had 11 children. Among them are: Mary Ruby, Mary Lucy, Ceceil, Joetta and Ernest who died in the Korean War. I know this information is kinda sketchy. Can anyone help? Thanks Lori
Wish I had more information and what I do have is sheer speculation at this time. Joseph Mattingly and Helen Higgins reportedly had a son named Richard, born about 1790. This Richard married Mary Elizabeth Smith (some controversy does exist as there was also a Richard Mattingly from the John Townley line who is married to Rebecca Cox on the 1850 census of Mason County. There is some speculation that this Richard married Eliza Smith). I tend to think it was the son of Joseph instead and the Mason County Richard had no son named John C., that I know of. There is a Richard Mattingly in Spencer County during the census of 1830 (between the ages of 40 and 50 - just the right age) with a son under the age of 5. I believe this was the son of Joseph and from the line of Thomas Mattingly, II (Joseph was a son of John Baptist Mattingly and Ann Spalding). This child under the age of 5 seems to be John Carroll, who was born 5-4-1827. By 1850 the Spencer County census shows a 'single' John C. Mattingly, aged 22, in the home of George Billman. I suspect this is John Carroll. The other names don't click with me at all. There aren't that many Kerrick's in Kentucky during 1850 and I suspect Mary Teresa was a daughter of Sebert Kerrick who is found in Spencer County on the 1850 census as follows: Sebert Kerrick 46 (all born in Kentucky) Rose A. 41 Mary T. 15 (born about 1835) Rosa Coombs 19 (don't know who these last two were) Harriett Jones 15 ***************** Spencer County KY Marriages 1853 > >MATTINGLY, John C. and Mary Teresa KERRICK, 16 Nov. 1853; B-James E. Tricia, I have a total screw up on this marriage, and Mary Ruth Bye is NOT to blame. I have two documentations for a Mary Mattingly married to a William Fowler, both stating the 1776 date, so I entered the dates etc without looking at Mary's birth date. I can only presume that there are two couples with the same names, and I have placed this marriage incorrectly. The sources are: 1. CATHOLIC FAMILIES OF SOUTHERN MARYLAND, O'Rourke, p. 35 "1776, Feb. 19, William Fowler and Mary Mattingly" (St. Mary's County, Maryland) 2. THE MATTINGLY FAMILY IN EARLY AMERICA, H.E. Mattingly, p. 206, (from Fr. James Walton's Diary) "1776 Feb. 19 Mattingly, Mary.............St. Mary's Md. William Fowler" You know the old saying, "The devil's in the details". Well it looks like I didn't let a little detail like a birth date hold me back. Please correct the error, and don't ANYBODY tell Mary Ruth I put this out under her name. :) Judith Burger ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rev. I'm in communication with a descendant of Elias Mattingly, born about 1844 and a son of Henry Mattingly and Celia Knott. Because of the name Elias, it seems logical that this family would be connected with the Cezar line or from Joseph Mattingly and Hessina Hinton. Both Joseph and Richard had descendants using this name so I'm speculating Henry was somehow related. Does anyone have any ideas (no matter how wild) as to who they speculate Henry may be related too?
I only have one child for Catherine and Thomas and that was George Robert Tippett who married Mary N. Robey. I also show George with only one child and that was Elizabeth Isabell. I presume Thomas Tippett died before 1850 for I find Elizabeth living with a Robert and Louisa Supple. Her son, George, is living next door. Was this Louisa Supple a daughter perhaps? ********** >There is rarely any mention of Henry Mattingly's sister, Catherine. There is rarely any mention of Henry Mattingly's sister, Catherine. She was also born to George and Elizabeth Mattingly (about 1795) and married Thomas Tippett. Do people agree on this? Thanks, Jerry
