    1. Re: [MATTINGLY] William Mattingly
    2. William R Mattingly
    3. A son of my 5th gt grandparents, Richard Mattingly and Eleanor Hinton was named William, born about 1788, likely in Maryland or enroute to Kentucky (the family settled in Breckinridge Co.). William reportedly married Nancy Cummins and then settled in Jasper County, Illinois. He is found there on the 1840 census with a male child the right age to have been Sonya's ancestor, William, born 7-24-1821. During the 1830 census William was in Lawrence County, Illinois, also with a child in the right age bracket as Sonya's William. The only two children named in Richard Mattingly's will of 1833 were daughters; Sarah and Mary Ann. William obviously had sons (at least four of them). Whether they survived and what their names were, is a question I have no answer to. Is there anyone knowledgable of William Mattingly and Nancy Cummins? ***************** sonya essman wrote: I am still trying to find history on my William Mattingly. He was born July 24, 1821, he died January 9 1879 in Burlingame, KS. He married Sarah H Kline in Wisconsin. His children are Edwin Dale, Jack Thompson, Sarah, George Temple, Edson L. and a Mary These children were born near Hazelgreen Wisconsin On Edwin Dales, death certificate it has his father as William C Mattingly, born near Lexington, KY His son George Temple, was in Company K Thirty First Wisconsin Infantry. I sent off to the National Archieves for the records. I heard back and they said there was a pension file and gave me the number but the records were with the Veterans records and I would have to send to Wichita, KS which I am mailing the form today. George Temple died in Topeka, KS July, 1928 George Temple had a son W. C. that is buried in Topek, KS cem. George Temple also had a son Charles E that died in Compton California, in Sept 1928 All census records but one state William was born in Kentucky. One census record has Missouri. The only record I can find with a middle initial is Edwin Dales death cert. which has his father as William C. Edwin Dale died in Topeka, KS June 1940 William's daughter Sarah married name was Johnson and in 1928 she was living in Compton, California.

    3. Hello List! I have a number of Luke Mattinglys in my file and am sure that some could be merged to reduce the population somewhat. I wonder if you have the Luke Mattingly s/o John Mattingly, s/o Cezar Mattingly (I think) married, and if so who might be his loving wife? I have a cryptic record from THE HISTORY OF UNION COUNTY KENTUCKY, 1886, p. 837 that states that Jeremiah Mattingly's father was Lucius Mattingly and his mother Miss Spalding, both born in St. Mary's County, Maryland. However I can find no record of such a marriage to date. It goes on to state that this Lucius and his wife, Unknown Spalding, settled in the Hardin Creek Settlement in the very early days. If this has a grain of truth in it, it seems likely that John below could be the father of the Luke (Lucius) the father of Jeremiah etc. What do you think? I have not as yet found a will for the John Mattingly featured in the probate record below. MARYLAND PROBATE RECORDS, PREROGATIVE COURT ABSTRACTS, 1744-1750, p. 25, John Mattenly 21.366 A SM L225.19.8 L255.0. 10 Jun 21 1745 Sureties: John Mattenly, George Haden Received from: John Poore. 2. Mary Cambron was born in 1882 and died March 8, 1964. MAry and Louis Bertrum only had two children as far as I know. Joseph Alton and Mary Thelma. I do not know Mary Cambron's parents. I will have to get back with you on the rest. I have more information but I have a few files in my computer and I keep getting them mixed up. I have tried to merge them but that causes problems too. I just hope this thing does not crash and I loose it all.

    2. Please let me know if there is another reunion of James Edwards descendants. I am one. I am the granddaughter of Agnes Celest Mattingly who married Joseph Alton Mattingly....my Mattingly blood is thick. As I have figured it, I am linked to Thomas MAttingly through at least 6 lines of descent. Scary. I would love to go. I have also found that many of the Mattingly's have physical traits that have passed down and passed down from old pictures that I have found. I think I have a picture of Jim Ed and Cynthia Thompson.
