Seems like Raphael, the son of John Mattingly and Maryann Wimsatt, died in 1832 in Daviess County. Wasn't there some court case or something? And you are right he was born about 1807. Raphael2 Mattingly1, born Bef. April 12, 1767 in St. Mary's County, Maryland1. Notes for Raphael Mattingly: I found this entry in The Western Maryland Genealogy, a 8 volume set of indexes, which has a rather prominent section called Frederick Co Indentures. There was a Louis Matinly, orphan age 15 y 15 Jan. next, to Jacob Knouff, shoemaker, to age 21. Wit J. Young, Geo. Baer, Jr. 31 Dec 1795. There was also a Raphael Matinly, orphan age 17 y 4 May next, to Henry Kolb, shoemaker, to age 21. Wit: J. Young, George Baer, Jr. 30 Dec. 1795. I'm not sure who these boys were but more than likely brothers. Thanks for the info. I had searched the census of Illinois using the search engine for William but only found Zachariah and Edward in Gallatin County. There is supposed to also be a Richard Mattingly in Monroe County but I haven't found him yet and have no idea who he may have been. The William you mention, aged between 26 and 45, is the right age to have been the son of Richard Mattingly and Eleanor Hinton of Breckinridge County, Kentucky. Their son, William was born about 1788. Richard, in his will of 1833, named two daughters of William and Nancy Cummins - Sarah and Mary Ann. Sarah was born about 1815 but I note this WIlliam does not have a daughter in that age bracket, still, this could be him and I know he had left Kentucky by this time. The Edward and Zachariah in Gallatin County were certainly sons of Richard and Eleanor. The search for Mattingly's in Illinois during 1820 also indicate that an Edward and Zachariah were supposed to have been in Johnson County at this time but a search, page by page, reveals no one named Mattingly in that county. Other sons of Richard and Eleanor to relocate to Illinois were George, Thomas, and Lewis. Daughter's Sarah (married Thomas Lewis), and Nancy (married James Finch) also went to Illinois. The 1820 Crawford Co., Il census shows - William Mattingly - 1 white male 21 & upwards and 3 all other white. I believe Lawrence Co. was part of Crawford Co. in 1820. The 1830 census of Lawrence Co., IL shows Wm. Matingley - males under 5 ears of age - 1; males of 5 and under 10 - 1; males of 40 and under 50 - 1; females under 5 - 1; of 5 and under 10 - 1: of 40 and under 50 - 1. The 1850 Jasper Co. census shows Wm. Mattingley, age 64, farmer, born Maryland. The Illinois Marriage Index shows a marriage record in Crawford Co., IL, for Wm. Mattingly to Mary Glen - 12 Aug 1820 - married 7 Sept 1820.
