    3. Hi Brenda I was checking the encyclopedia Shawn had posted on his web site and could not find a Daniel born early enough to qualify. Perhaps we have a new emigrate. There are two Thomas Medlock born August 20, 1808, but I have been able to account for both, neither with the colonel. The Thomas that married Rebecca Miller is well researched and published and has a active group all his own (thanks again guys and Wanda) . I did find one other reference a Lt. Charles Medlock (not even the same rank) who has a father named Daniel. I put it in so I would not lose it and have included it below. I tried to update the note but the email bounced.. Thanks to the urging of an 87 year old cousin, I have spent the last twoweeks (pretty much 12 hours a day!) sifting, sorting, shuffling andsearching through all of the information that you all have so kindly shared in previous communications which are duly noted on the genealogy file on disk. I recently received access via TexShare to the Texas State Library and have a few tidbits to share maybe tomorrow, but for today I thought I would share this narrative that I prepared for my cousin. If you happen to see anything that you feel is in error, please let me know. Special thanks go to Jim Sims, Sheila Shannon Lawson and Susan Gillberg, but every single one of you have added invaluable information to this really e-x-t-e-n-d-e-d family. Regards,Sandy Morris (in Dallas, TX) * * * * * * * * * *Thomas R. and his family were living in Lampasas Co., TX when the 1870census was taken. By 1880, the family had moved to Burnet Co., TX. The1890 census was destroyed by fire in the 1920s, and we have yet to findThomas R. and Elizabeth on a census for 1900. In 1881, Thomas R. filed an application for Letters of Guardianship ofthe estate of Charles Medlock (his half-brother) in Llano Co., TX. Hisclaim was denied when Charles' wife prevailed and was appointed herhusband's guardian. In 1907 Thomas R. made application in the State of Texas for a pension for service to Texas during the Civil War (Confederate). His occupation was listed as doctor and farmer. On the application he stated that he was 69 years old (which means that his year of birth would have to have been 1838). He stated that he was living in Hamilton Co. and that his post office for the last 30 days was Vista, which was crossed out and Star written in. He said he took a cough in the war and still has it and is unable to work; that he served in Texas Co., B 17th Reg. Allens Regt. in infantry; that he has lived in Ft. Smith, AR and in Indian Territory but has been back to Wise Co., TX during the period 1880 to present; said he was a resident of Brownville in Wise Co., TX when he enlisted. No muster roll was found with Medlock's name but his application was approved. Elizabeth died before 1910 in Lampasas Co., TX. In 1910, Thomas R. was shown as an uncle living in the household of Robert H. Huffman in Hamilton Co., TX. Thomas R.'s date of death is believed to be between 1911 and 1915. He died of T.B. at his son Frank's house in McCullough Co., TX, and is buried at Calf Creek Cemetery. According to the Encyclopedia of MATLOCK/MEDLOCK, Thomas R. was a farmer but mostly traveled in what once was called a "hack", selling various goods and merchandise. According to various researchers, Thomas R. Medlock was styled as a doctor in some records. He frequently traveled between Texas and Arkansas. One researcher noted: Over the years, however, Thomas R.'s lack of significant taxable property in the historical records seems inconsistent with the expected wealth of a physician. Another researcher stated that there is a story in his family that Thomas R. was a patent medicine man and that he traveled a lot and was not a good provider for his family; that he did not serve in the Civil War but did receive a pension from Texas.
