Joe Matlock Cleburne Waldemar Medlock, Jr. proamsoft@worldnet.att.net 2003-01-11 13:37:00 It is likely, but NOT certain, that the Silas MEDLOCK buried in Center Point, AR is the SAME Silas (my GreatGrandFather) referenced on p. 289b (dated 12 Nov 1850) of the 1850 Laurens Co., SC census, where the latter's age was given as 52. This places his d.o.b. between 13 Nov 1797 and 12 Nov 1798, NOT in 1801! Likewise, Catherine's age is shown on that same page as either 45 or 48, requiring her d.o.b. to be between 13 Nov 1801 and 12 Nov 1805, NOT 1809! If his d.o.d., as shown on the Center Pont headstone, is 1 Feb 1855 (NOT 1859 -- it is easy to misread fives as nines, in that the only difference is the closure on the upper loop!), at age 57, then he would have been born between 2 Feb 1797 and 1 Feb 1798! Similarly, if his age at death was 59 (NOT 57 -- nines often look like sevens when worn down on the lower left of the upper loop!), a d.o.d. of 1 Feb 1859 would produce a d.o.b between 2 Feb 1799 and 1 Feb 1800.
