hi Linda Garrison's family is the question of this family group. Keep hoping some one will find the clue or deed or Bible that will fill us in. In the mean time good luck... Joe Matlock Descendants of Garrison Gibson Medlock Generation No. 1 1. GARRISON GIBSON1 MEDLOCK was born 19 April 1820 in Laurens County, South Carolina, and died 13 November 1896 in Henry County, Georgia. He married REBECCA EVELYN SHAW POOLE 1840 in Laurens County, South Carolina ?, daughter of WILLIAM POOLE and CATHERINE. She was born 26 July 1824, and died 02 August 1897 in Georgia. This couple is buried in the Abercombie-Babb-Conkle-Wallace Family Cemetery, Henry County, Georgia.. Notes for GARRISON GIBSON MEDLOCK:SOME OF THIS FAMILY USES THE SURNAME MEDLOCK. In 1850 this family is living in Henry County, Georgia Notes for this family and its descendency are from Elizabeth G. Dellinger T2Sisters@AOL.COM."Our Medlock name is believed from family legend to have begun with a family or clan living near the River Medlock, Lancashire, England. Our roots begin with Garrison Gibson Medlock. He told his children before he died that his parents were not married and that he was raised by his grandparents The John Medlocks. Garrison and Rebecca Medlock left their home, with 4 of their 14 children, near Anderson SC about 1848 and settled in Clayton County, GA ( Henry County ?) between Jonesboro and McDonough. He and three sons-in-law served in the Confederate War. His unit followed the Union Army after it had passed through Henry County to the coast. He later served as a guard at the Andersonville Military Prison. He was a deacon in the Baptist church near Lovejoy, Ga and is said to have been very loyal. Garrison is said to have three loves in his life his family, his church, and his farming. THESE DATES FOR GARRISON'S MOTHER DO NOT WORK. COULD HAVE BEEN A SISTER TO JOHN REEDER OR OTHER WISE RELATED? Garrison Gibson Medlock purchased land in Albertville, Al after the Civil War but he never lived there. He would travel to Albertville once a year to collect rent. His children Molly and John Reeder also bought land in that area. John R and his brother James Garrison later moved to Albertville. Garrison G. Medlock was a farmer. He planted cotton, corn, peas, wheat, and oats. He planted all of the food for his live stock and all the vegetables for his family. He raised hogs, cows, sheep, etc. He would shear the sheep, and his wife would wash, dye and spin the wool into thread making the family clothes and bed linen." According to Jo Medlock the middle name is "GIPSON" From: "Macie Lewis" <maciebl@bellsouth.net>To: <jmatlock@mail.state.tn.us>Date: 1/2/01 7:19PMSubject: Medlock/Medlock Hello Joe, I retired in 1993 and decided I would investigate and find out who I am. An aunt of mine had joined several organizations where she had to have proof of ancestors being in armed services. When she died I came into possession of a box of disorganized notes, etc that she had collected and that is where I got lots of my information. I am still working on this project and had a lot of unanswered questions that I probably will never find the answer. According to my records John R(I believe Reeder) was born in Laurens County, S. C. on Dec. 15, 1796, died Nov 13, l862, on Oct 27, l819 he married Lucinda Mayfield who was born August 6, l802. Some records show her birthdate to be 1798. Lucinda was born in Gwinnett Co. Ga and died 1860 or 1862 in either Goodspeed or Cleveland, Ark. My records show their children to be:Sally-born 1820, Mary Ann-1822, James M.-1823, Laurency-1825(this may be your Lorena)William F.-1827(changed spelling to Medlock),John Washington-1829, Elizabeth Caroline-1831,Miles Jefferson-1833, Lucindy Jane-1835,Battle W.-1837, Samantha and Damantha(twins)-1839, Giles Matison-1842, Alexander Pinto-1845,Nancy Ann-`1847(notes indicate of the 15 children 7 spelled the name Medlock, 8 retained Medlock. John Reeder and Lucinda Medlock is supposed to have raised Garrison Gibson Medlock (their grandson) who was born in 1820, out of wedlock. I believe they had a daughter named Mary who was probably Garrison's mother, but nothing can be found on her. Back during that day & time the worst shame one could bring on their family was to have a child out of wedlock. (my, how times have changed). Garrison Gibson Medlock was my great grandfather, his son George Benjamin Davis Medlock, born in Lovejoy, Clayton County, Ga -died Aug 14, l947, was my grandfather. He married my grandmother, Ophelia Caroline Hamilton, born Aug 17, l870 in Lovejoy, GA, died Aug. 1961, they are both buried in Jonesboro Cemetary, Jonesboro,Clayton Co. GA. My mother was their daughter, Winnie Davis Medlock Brown, born Mar 11, 1907, died Aug 1, l988. I believe this is probable a shared family. I have lots more notes and documents to sort to find out who some names that appear in them are. Let me know if you have any more information I can use and I will do the same. Only male children in Greenville Co., in 1830 were children of William. And according to the census here he had a five to 10 year old male child in his house hold by 1840. Looking at this census William is the only one that does not appear in 1840. Rebecca could be the widow of William. Sorry that I can not help you more. Seems that someone posted that he was raised by his grandfather. Perhaps someone else has more information for you.
