Thanks Winnie for all of your help.... Joe Matlock >>> "winiford" <wsbailey@smt-net.com> 3/16/2004 10:40:42 PM >>> There was a tight group of Matlock re- searchers working back in the 1950-60 & 70's, Jesse Armstrong, Edgar L. Matlock, Naomi Haacke, Toni Matthew, Lillian Kinkeade, a Helen ? a Laurence ? who lived in or near Salt Lake, in the west we had Marilynn Matlock Price, Lois Piper last but not least Melba Wood, Marie Matlock Harris claimed to be the last of this pre-computer bunch. When Melba knew her time was very short, she managed to produce a MATLOCK book .... then and gave them away ... she was so desperate to save the acclimative work of all these people. But we also must remember this her family history .... in 30 years of trying to find her great grandmother, Endamile, Andamile ... (never did far as I know) ... she covers a lot of MATLOCK's ... to keep them in order she ( a nurse) made order. With her permission I took her work and using the program "Word Perfect" started a Matlock Book (My MATLOCK JOURNAL) with an INDEX . I could have called it a Scrap Book, I entered everything as I received it ... I assumed Haacke, Kinkeade, Price etc ... proved their work to the best they could .... I became a collector and a recorder. Why a "Journal" because in time I discovered ... others work I received would melded with Melba's so easy ... it was no longer just Melba's work, even your computer messages of today hook on/into her basic foundation so beautifully. The Title of her small 60 page book is: MY MATERNAL ANCESTRY II Dean Matlock Haile Gahr Binkley Ellis Vick Woolsey East Tennessee Pioneer Matlock Families As some of you have this Book on Hand I'll give page no.'s now and then .... also for the Journal. To bring the MATLOCK's into some semblance of order, Melba, made a large paper chart ... where they by using dates, places where certain Matlock's grouped and by elimination ... the family lines were slowly built. Note on page 24 ... she says I tried to put Nicholas and Moore into the family of William of Goochland but they wouldn't fit. I have never yet settled on who this William is ... Melba and our present day Brenda give me the impression he is 1.1.2. William who m. Catherine ... his new wife in 1733 in Goochland ... see Melba's page 23 and page 47 in the Journal for Brenda's comments. Melba WOOD's Basic foundation as I saw it. 1. John MATLOCK, Sr. page 23 ....
