    2. Joe Matlock
    3. Good Morning Curt Below is all I have been able to find for the three earliest generations of this family. The one other published source shows James Matlock as an arrival from Scotland during the early 1700s. I was looking for him this morning on Ancestry.com and nobody had published anything on him yet out side the one family source. When Kirk's DNA sample comes back we will have a better idea for our direction of inquiry. Joe Matlock Descendants of James Matlock Generation No. 1 1. JAMES1 MATLOCK was born Abt. 1710. Joseph Matlack, son of W! illiam Matlack and Mary Hancock, was born in New Jersey, married Rebecca Haines, and moved to Goshen, Chester County, Pennsylvania in 1728. There is your Pennsylvania connection. Joseph and Rachel did have a son, Joseph, born 25 September, 1740. According to my information this Joseph died young. Both his birth date and the fact he died young say he could not have married Julia Scott and had a son Joseph born 7 March 1753. The documentation on the Haines family is excellent and agrees with my source on the Matlack family. The next time I am at the Gloucester County Historical Society I will look to see if I can find a Joseph Matlack who married Julia Scott in 1780. This is what I have on Joseph Matlack, son of William Matlack and Mary Hancock, and his wife Rebecca Haines. I have copies of the family pages three different but related bibles that all agree that Richards son, Joseph, was born 15 August 1750. I also have the abstract of both Richard's and Joseph's Wills. Both died in Gloucester County, New Jersey. I still t! hink your best chance of finding the Matlick connection, if any, is with Joseph, son of Timothy Matlack and Hester Eldridge in Virginia. I am trying to refresh my mind on Joseph. I have been looking at past messages, and believe you think he may be the son of Joseph Matlack, grandson of Joseph Matlack and Rebecca Haines, great grandson of William Matlack and Mary Hancock. Am I right so far? Question. Who was the mother of Joseph Matlack, born 7 March 1853? I believe I told you that both my primary source on the New Jersey - Pennsylvania Matlacks and my primary source on the Haines family state that Joseph Matlack, son of Joseph Matlack and Rebecca Haines, was born 25 September 1740, and that he died at a young age. This would eliminate him as the father of Joseph, born 7 March, 1853. I was doing some research on Joseph Matlack and Rebecca Haines. On ancestry.com I found birth records for 9 of their 10 children in a database titled "Southeastern Pennsylvania, 1680-1800 Birth Index". The missing child was Caleb, born 14 April 1750, the last of Joseph and Rebecca's 10 children according to John Wesley Haines. Rebecca would have been 45 when Caleb was born. He also supposedly died young. The last three records I found in the Southeastern Pennsylvania, 1680-1800 Birth Index were: Joseph Matlack * no birth date listed ( Born 25 September 1740 * J. W. Haines) Amos Matlack * no birth date listed. ( Born 22 November 1744 * J. W. Haines) Joseph Matlack * no birth date listed Was the second Joseph a mistake, a repeat of the first Joseph? (I did find an earlier record repeated but they were listed consecutively, not separated by a different record.) Or, did Rebecca, at age 48, give birth to another son who was named Joseph after his father and dead brother? My other sources did not list a second son named Joseph. Is this the Joseph who married Julia Scott? Curt Miller
