    2. Joe Matlock
    3. Good Morning JulieYour John Wesley is not so much lost as unpublished. Your grandmother Daisy was quite right but she would not have first hand information as she was born (from what I have been able to find out) in California. Your real blind alley is John's grandfather Elisha Hosea Matlock. Very little is known or published about him other than his name and that of his sons. You might want to contact the two informants below as well. good luck in your search and please let the family know how you progressing. by the way are you in contact with any of the male descendent of your line who have the surname Matlock. We have a DNA program just starting and could use the data. good LuckJoe MatlockDescendants of Lewis Micajah Matlock Generation No. 1 1. According to her notes, Lewis Micajah (or other way around) Matlock found in 1850 Madison County ILL census and voila my John W. shows age 13 (within the parameters of known birthdate 1838.) Other children are found in that same family and true to Virginia's notation John W. Matlock is found near his brother James Monroe Matlock in Moniteau County, MO in 1870. My John W. is found in Walker Township and James Monroe is found in Harrison Township, both in Moniteau County Mo in 1870. She also states Lewis Micajah or Micajah Lewis Matlock in Madison County, ILL father is Elisha Hosea. Elisha Hosea is found in Matlock Encyclopedia as being born in Va 1754. Your post dated 23 Mar 2000 puts Elisha Hosea son of Nicolas and Mary Sheldon. Turns out that younger brother Richard is where Jana Black' s line branches off. Can you substantiate Elisha Hosea's parentage. Also I have to get substantiation for Virginia's claim that Elisha Hosea is father of Lewis Micajah or Micajah Lewis Matlock. If I can, then I can prove my father's ancestors in this way. Perry Wilson Matlock b. 1917 Pedro Florida, his father John Perry Matlock, b. 1868, Moniteau County Mo, his father John W. (Wesley) Matlock b. 1838 Madison County ILL, his father, Micajah b. 1806 living in Madison County, IL in 1850, his father Elisha Hosea b. 1754, his father Nicholas with wife Lucy Shelton, then John Moore Matlock and wife Hester Watson and immigrant John Matlock with wife coming over from England on the Griffith in 1675, etc, etc. etc. If you can follow my chicken scratch, I sure would like to hear from you. Thanks Janet Matlock Cooper from Prescott, AZ jcooper@futureone.com. P.S. You remember John Wesley Matlock is one of your "orphans" you are trying to plug in. I have complete documentation on his descendents if you want. More About JOHN WESLEY MATLOCK:Military service: War Between the States CPL Enlisted Co. D 59th Ill Vol Inf Rgt USA 30 july 1861. I have recently become the family genealogist for my side and my husbands side of the family. In doing so I work on one surname for awhile until I get frustrated then I wander off and do another one, This month I am buried in the Smith side of my family and my current wall is John Westly Matlock b. February 11, 1838 in Highland, Madison Co., MO I found today all the lovely information on the Matlocks on the web, unfortunately this John is only barely mentioned if at all and usually with a few big question marks around him. I was beginning to wonder if I had any of the right information. All my information is from the Moore Family Bible and oral history from the Smith Family. This is the information I have, maybe someone out there can help me link this guy to the other Matlocks. John Westly Matlock b. February 11, 1838 in Highland, Madison Co., MO d. According to family oral history, The family moved in covered wagon from Mo to Northern CA around 1870-ish, Grandma Daisy is remembered by my husband (b 1957), he thinks it was her anyway, telling him about her early life as a settler, it is part of his growing up memories. No one knows when she finally died, and I can't find an obit. ------=_NextPart_000_002B_01C41E79.44648150 Content-Type: text/x-vcard; name="Julie Smith.vcf" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="Julie Smith.vcf" BEGIN:VCARD VERSION:2.1 N:Smith;Julie FN:Julie Smith TEL;HOME;VOICE:360-882-5337 TEL;CELL;VOICE:360-281-9054 ADR;HOME:;;;Vancouver;WA;98682;USA LABEL;HOME;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Vancouver, WA 98682=0D=0AUSA BDAY:19651006 EMAIL;PREF;INTERNET:smitty1006@comcast.net EMAIL;INTERNET:smitty1006@comcast.net REV:20040410T042606Z END:VCARD ------=_NextPart_000_002B_01C41E79.44648150-- ==== MATLOCK Mailing List ==== To UNSUBSCRIBE from this list, email MATLOCK-L-request@rootsweb.com, use no subject line and write only the word UNSUBSCRIBE in the message body.
