Hi List.. This is where my mind is running to, on the Ishams.. Anyone have any thoughts? Id like to hear about them.. Brenda The Earliest Isham Medlock that I have seen is one that is listed: American Genealogical-Biographical Index MEDLOCK Isham Born 174? Virginia Historical reg. Of Virginians in the Rev., soldiers, saliors and marines, 1775-1783. Ed. By John H. Gwathmey. Richmond, Va. 1938. (13, 872p.):542 I am not familiar with that index, But from what I understand AGBI is an index to individuals appearing in family histories and other genealogical works, and researchers are encouraged to locate and examine the material from which the database was created. If not available from your local academic or research library, most of the works referenced in the AGBI are housed at the Godfrey Memorial Library in Connecticut. A photocopy service is available. Please contact Godfrey Memorial Library, 134 Newfield St, Middletown, CT 06457 (I have taken the above infromation from Ancestry.com. ) So if any of you have access to the above type Info.. Please let me know what you find... Thanks to Winnie for putting out some of Marie Harris and Melba Woods work,as well as what Shawn and Jana has done with Jess Armstrong work There appears to be an Isham that was in Botetourt Co VA Botetourt County was created in 1769 from Augusta County ....Augusta County was created in 1738 from Orange County.. This is in a sense taking us away from the New Kent/Hanover Co area... BUT If you look at a 1770 map of VA ( at US Genweb.). Botetort Co Boarders with Bedford Co VA.. Bringing us back to William of 1702 Etc.. So I assume one can forget about Augusta Co and we can go back to thinking of the John Matlock SR and lines.... Looking at what info can be found for Botetourt Co There was these Matlocks that were there: First there was a William.. 1779.. He was shot to death "The Sentence passed by the Cort Marshall & the Same Wm. Matlock to Be shot to Death at Six o'clock this Evening, the whole of the Troops to assemble at that hour on the Grand Parade & attend the Execution." guessing that this William was abt 25... that puts him born abt 1752...( I wish I was more familiar with the ages of these Military Men... Could he be 40? born 1712? Could he be 30? Born 1722?) Is he a son of William of 1702, Whose children have never really been identified... This William beings he is in Bedford Co.....Now also Keep in Mind that there was a Isom in Ablemarle Co , Along side William of 1702... Is Isom/ Isham a son of William of 1702?????? Survey in county 1768: Isom MATLOCK 350A; ( Guessing that this Isom is 25ish old enough to have land, puts him born in 1743... abt the time the Index above is putting him... Was William of 1702 having children born at that time he would be 41.. and in Goochland Co Va Married to a Catherine... from 1781-1785 Matlocks named are Isham. Moore. Charles. John and a Berry... So here we have Isham.. Is this the one that is born abt 174? OR Is this the one that Jess has born abt 1762 Augusta Co? the one that married a Martha in 1788 Botetourt Co? There was an Isham that was in Henry Co VA.. 1777 and 1778... in which 1777 was the year that Henry Co was created in.. from Pittsylvania Co This puts in the Halifax area.. Again William of 1702 and Moore Matlock etc are there.... Marie Harris was making a conection with the Isham in Henry Co and the one in Botetourt as one and the same... She is thinking on the lines of this Isham possibly being the son of Mooar Matlock who was mentioned in Hanover Co 1734.. ... For she believes that the Mooar in Hanover 1734.. Is Possibly one of the sons of John Sr.. a brother to John Jr and Hester... Half brother to William of 1702. father of Moore born abt 1732 ( If William of 1702 is the father of Moore Matlock born 1732 ( according to Melba Woods) Did he name Moore after his brother? ) I suppose that Mooar Could also be a son of John and Hester... especially snice John and Hester Married before 1689... ( according to William Watson Will) Anyway Getting back to Isham.... this Isham shows in Botetourt Co in 1782 and the according to Jess (Isham served in the American Revolutionary War as evidenced by many payroll records beginning 1776 until 1782. He served in the 7th Va. Regt) and that he died in Botetourt Co ( I have seen 1825 and 1828....
