Barbara Please excuse me for switching to this format. The question of name has come up several times and the current effort to record the family census information is underway. When did the different spelling begin and why. If my back track of the Colonel is correct (and I may be wrong) then his line runs back to a the Englishman George and his wife Jane Hall. Of their sons William in America (New Jersey) becomes MATLACK, and John of Virginia is MATLOCK. (Grandson???) George becomes MEDLOCK. And how is Samuel MEDLOCK Of 1750 who married Jane Swearington of 1740 in South Carolina related?? Who is the John MEDLOCK of South Carolina who raised his grandson Garrison Gibson MEDLOCK (B. 19 Apr 1820) in Laurens County, South Carolina and what is their relationship to Newton Jasper MEDLOCK (b. 1831) in Greenville, Laurens County, South Carolina? Are dealing with a regional mispronouncing of the name and colonial bad spelling or are we seeing different families landing on different colonies? Any thoughts?? Best Regards Joe Matlock
