Hi, My two cents worth. AND it's an "I don't know either". Newton Jasper is my GGGGGrandfather and I sure wish I could link him to parents and siblings. I do believe that a vast majority of the spellings tend to be mis-spellings due to lack of formal education, dialects, etc. I also have a Garrison but do not have a middle name - I do believe it is Gibson but can't prove it. He was born 1854 and married a Mary Ann "Mollie" Davis. John
