I think I have emailed you both, quite a while ago in the past, asking about her, but wondered if you have come across anything new which might help me nail her down to one of the Matlock families. I'll recap what I know about her (unfortunately, not a lot!): She was born 1826 in TN; married William Purselley in 1842 in Roane Cty.; I have wondered if she and William's siblings were William Matlock and Margaret Purselley (who married in Roane Cty in 1844) and that siblings married siblings, but never could prove that one! Mary Jane and William Purselley moved to Bradley Cty and settled there; she died rather early--age 40--in 1866, and they are both buried in the Purselley Cemetery in Bradley Cty. They had 10 children: Thomas B. Jesse M. Famye or Phame E. Margaret James C. John M. William J. Sarah Elizabeth "Lizzy" Mary C. Christopher Columbus Son Jesse M. could've been named for Jesse Matlock? Brenda suggested that Thomas B. could've been named for Mary's brother, Thomas B., if she was indeed the daughter of Jesse Matlock of the below 1850 census. 1850 MATLOCK JESSE Roane County TN 350 20th Sub Division Jesse Matlock 54 WM Farmer B TN Elendor 50 WF TN John 22 WM TN Thomas B 19 WM TN James 17 WM TN Elizabeth 15 WF TN Jackson 8 WM TN Sarah Elendor 3 WF TN William P. and Mary J. are listed in the 1850 Bradley Cty census and then William is listed without her in the 1870 and 1880 Bradley Cty censuses. Do either of you have any thoughts on this?? I have sorta put the Matlocks and Purselleys on the back burner for months, just being frustrated at not being able to find her on anybody's census' or family member lists, but with all of the wonderful Matlock data that flies by regularly from Brenda and you two, I'm ready to get serious again about finding the ole girl. Many thanks to you for any pearls of wisdom you might share! Linda
