Helen Marnie Stewart (see roster), 2 Feb. 1855, Lane Co., Ore. He had been to the Calif. gold mines and those in Australia before returning to Pa., where he persuaded his mother and brothers to move to Ore.; d. Eastern Oregon. John S. - b. 1831, Pa.; m. Ann A. Harris, 23 Feb. 1860, Jacksonville, Ore.; d. 18 Sept. 1867, Jacksonville. James - nothing further is known of him except that he is said to have died a tragic death in southern Ore. LYMAN, Joseph S. - b. 1812/13, Conn.; farmer, carpenter, hotel keeper at Lancaster, Lane Co., Ore.; settled first in Tillamook Co., where he was the first assessor and his wife the first teacher; later returned to Lane Co.; d. 1871, Lane Co., Ore. LYMAN, Esther (Brakeman) - b. 1 Nov. 1823, N.Y.; m. Joseph, July, 1850, Mich., as his second wife. Name of first wife is unknown. Esther m. (2) Thomas Butler, 17 Oct. 1872, Lane Co., Ore., as his second wife. Butlers had been on the cut-off also in 1853 (see roster). Esther d. 17 Feb. 1917, Brownsville, Ore. Children: Luther - identified on McLean list as a son of Joseph by the first marriage. No other proof has been found nor is anything known of him once he reached the Valley in the fall of 1853. After Joseph rode ahead from the Harney Valley for help, September 12th, Luther (although only lad) took over the task of bringing Mrs. Lyman and the children to the Valley.
