    1. Re: [MATLOCK-L] Re: Garrison Gibson Medlock
    2. My grandfather, William Frank Matlock, had a brother named Newton Matlock and his father was Jasper Matlock. I haven't been able to trace Jasper Matlock except he had been in Illinois 13 years when he died in 1879. He came from Indiana. I wonder if my Newton Matlock and Jasper Matlock have any connection with the Newton Jasper Medlock that Joe Matlock keeps mentioning. It rings a bell but ... DavId MATLOCK married Sarah MATLOCK, they were both born in Indiana and had 8 children (this is not verified). One of their sons, Jasper Newton MATLOCK married Nancy Helen Nation on December 23, 1874 in Charleston, Illinois. He was born in Morgan County, Washington Twp, Indiana, in March 1852. He died September 8, 1879 in Charleston, Coles County. I have a copy of the obituary and a copy of the death certificate (the death certificate has very little information on it). His wife, Nancy Helen Nation was born December 11, 1851in Indiana (town unknown). She died Spril 23, 1927. She and Jasper had three boys, one of whom, David, died in infancy. The other two were William Franklin Matlock (my grandfather) and Newton L. Matlock. After Jasper died, she remarried and had a daughter, William Franklin Matlock was born September 07, 1875 in Charleston, Illinois. In a census record and a couple of other data, it showed that whoever entered the name, crossed the "l" in Matlock at the same time they crossed the "t" making the name appear to be Mattock. Frank, as he was known, died on June 1, 1953. Newton L. Matlock was born April 3, 1877 in Charleston, Illinois. He died March 28, 1945 David a. Matlock was born 1879 and died in 1880. I have very little information other than what is listed above. I THINK Jasper came from Indiana since the obituary said so but I don't know how to find records in Indiana. If anyone connects with this name, let me know. He came from Morgan County, Washington Twp, Indiana. My Newton and Jasper Matlock were born at different times from your Newton and Jasper but they MUST be connected to the same family mine was. The names are too similar to ignore, I think. Fran
