    3. Then you must know Elizabeth Dellinger who is also part of the Garrison string... Stupid me I had not thought that John might be a maternal grandparent...( a simlar case to Nancy Matlock and her son George)... If so it would lessen the chance that Garrison and Newton and or Thomas are bothers, but they mght be uncle and nephew or perhaps 1st cousins?? Somewhere there is a clue that we are all either not aware of yet or that we have over looked. Lets all keeping looking and posting the infomation...someone will make it happen. Best regards. Joe Matlock >>> "Melissa Hill Dees" <[email protected]> 11/28/00 06:49AM >>> Dear Joe & Sam: Garrison Gibson MEDLOCK is my husband's great great grandfather. I have been trying to break through the brick wall of his parentage for some time. I, too, have the info that his parents never married; however, he did have parents--who? Does anyone know if the John MEDLOCK (his grandfather) who raised him was his maternal or paternal grandfather? I got the following info earlier this year via e-mail from a Jeff Medlock. Maybe it will help someone else make a connection. Albertville, AL is where Garrison Gibson MEDLOCK owned property and several of his children wound up in Marshall Co., AL. "About ten years ago I corresponded with a woman named Betha Wingette who lived in Jonesboro, Ga and who was a granddaughter of Garrison Medlock. She mentioned that Garrison was illegitimate. Her sister Flora Hanson also related that he was raised by a grandfather named John. They both believed that Garrison had a brother named Wesley and a brother named Newton Jasper Medlock. I do know that Newton Jasper had a son named Garrison. This Garrison also lived in Albertville for a time. He was living there when the 1900 census was taken. He was born in South Carolina in 1854 I think making him about the same age as John Reeder and James Garrison. Rebecca ( wife of Garrison Gibson Medlock) was the daughter of William Poole (1756-1839) and his wife Ursula Hudson. James Poole died in Laurens County and his estate papers show that his estate was owed money by a John Medlock. As subsequent estate papers show this John Medlock did not survive James Poole for very long as John Medlock's widow "Linny" (Caroline?) owes money to the estate. The questions with the early Medlock's are several. What is the relationship between Garrison and Newton Jasper and Thomas (b 20 aut 1808)? Who is this grand father John Medlock? How do they fit with Samuel of 1750; John R. of 15 Dec 1796 and Isham of Virginia at abt 1756?? > What do you think. > > Joe Matlock > > >>> Samuel W Medlock <[email protected]> 11/25/00 10:09AM >>> > Hi Joe, > Terry Gladfelter sent me your message, she and I work together onthe Medlocks, but I have been out of the country for a couple of months. > I found a names book in Atlanta. It says that Garrison Gibson Medlock wasborn in Laurens Co SC 4/14/1820. He told his children before he died that his parents were not married and he was raised by his grandparents, the John Medlocks. Garrison married Rebecca Elizabeth Pool Cir 1840. She was born 7/26/1824. Garrison died 11/13/1896 and she died 8/2/1897 both bur. in Babb Cemety in Henry Co Ga. I have more info and would be glad to send it to you if you wish.
