I now have a number for Edward Lane Matlock thanks to Joe Matlock of TN. Number 1.1.5.3.1.4. Edward Lane Matlock believed by Jesse Armstrong and Melba Wood to belong in chapter 3 as part of John's descendants, a possible son of Charles or Caswell Matlock Edward, b. 18 Apr 1817, Humphrey Co. TN ... another source says he was a native of Georgia, moved to Dade Co,. MO Marie Matlock Harris of AZ. said this Edward was a grandson of Judge Edward Lane, first Judge to serve the Oregon Territory ... so far we have found no such Judge. Edward arrived in Oregon in 27 Oct 1853 .... The Koger wagon train crossed mid Oregon that year, I have long suspected the MATLOCK's were in that train ..... or a similar one .... because the MATLOCK's settled at Pleasant Hill, we found a number of them in the local cemetery. Edward Lane County ... DLC # 1689, 296 acres at TI8s R3W and sec's 13, 14. At Goshen, OR. Heirs to estate are Caswell J.; Joseph DeWitt, James W.; Edward L.; William T.; Benjamin F.: and Sarah May. Marie Harris said she had much information for Caswell, son of John Matlock and Mary Merrick dau. of Rachel Merrick . [[At the time I found Marie, she was slowly dying, she gave me as much information as we could handle, it was mostly in her head, books, & album's .... as she never organized the material ]]]]] He, Caswell became a MORMON in 1828 before the Book of Mormon was printed in 1830 ... Marie said she had his "school of Prophets" "7 Lectures of Faith" - 1830 edition Book of Mormon. When the Mormons left Illinois and Mo. She says the MATLOCK brothers and related families ... the DEAN's, Moses & Arron, John PROFFIT and RINEHART families came with them to Utah ... The MATLOCK's and RINEHART's kept going west taking the family bible with them to the Oregon Territory. We find Matlocks in Whitman Co. WA, RINEHARTS in Dayton, WA further south and going further south we have MATLOCK's and RINEHART's in Heppner, and Pendleton. [[See the MATLOCK web site for Barbara Jane Matlock McRAE's story of crossing the Plains in 1874 and her / their experience and feelings about the Mormons even some years after the event. Barbara is Number 1.1.5.1.3.10.3. in my Journal, her story isn't in the Journal .... but it was in the Seattle Library last I knew. . Still Dancing ...... better stop here for the night Winnie S.
