    1. [MATLOCK-L] Re: Moore and Jane Matlock's Moore
    2. Joe Matlock
    3. Hi Wanda It is John Wesley Matlock born about 1759-60 who married Margaret, who is listed as a sone of Moore and Jane..John Caswell's dates are from his tombstone. Joe Matlock >>> "Wanda R" <[email protected]> 06/08/01 01:32AM >>> Joe, When I first started researching the Matlock's the first thing that I found was an old group sheet that was found in the Courthouse at Kingston, Roane Co, TN. I also found a couple of letters from Melba Woods to a Mrs. Hutchison I believe. I will have to dig for these. >From these 2 items is what I first based my research own. It was a good starting point for me for I knew nothing about the Matlocks. In this she said that John Matlock son of Moore was married to a Margaret Unknown. I have this John born about 1760. I also have a deed for a John Medlock which was registered in 1797 in Hawkins Co, TN. (I'll post it to GENWEB in the next day or so). I took it that this John who was in the same general area as Moore was his son. If this is in fact his son. Then the date of the John Caswell you are using for his birth (1786)just doesn't jive. If he was born 1786 he could not have had land in 1797. And if we are assuming that Moore and Jane are the parents of John Caswell they were possibly in there late 50's when they had him. I have that Jane was born about 1735 she would have been in her 50's. From what I've seen most everyone has Moore's birth about 1730. Their first child (if it is Zachariah or William Sr. depending on who you talk too) was born about 1753 or 56. Would they also have a child 30 years later? Something to ponder......
