    1. DNA testing
    2. Hi Joe I was going to post the following letter on a couple of New Jersey boards but wanted you to look it over first. Curt MATLOCK – MATLACK – MEDLOCK – MATLICK - etc DNA testing. Many, if not most people with the MATLACK surname in New Jersey and Pennsylvania are descended from William MATLACK, born William MATLOCK in Cropwell Bishop England. It is believed his brother, John MATLOCK came to Virginia a few years earlier. There is way of proving this, DNA testing. This testing only works for direct male descendants. For more information on this testing go to this site. http://www.ba044ancestry.com/Matlock/DNA%20RESULTS.htm So far a number of men with the MATLOCK, MEDLOCK, and MATLICK surnames have been tested and match on 25 of 25 markers. The MATLOCKS and MEDLOCKS trace there ancestry to John in Virginia. The one MATLICK who has been tested traces his ancestry to William in New Jersey. While these results prove the MATLICK who was tested shares a common ancestor with the MATLOCKS and MEDLOCKS, with only one test from someone tracing there ancestry to William in New Jersey there is always the possibility of error. It’s conceivable he is descended from John in Virginia. It would be very helpful, and appreciated, if male MATLACKS with proven ancestry would submit a DNA sample to be tested. This would prove, or disprove, that William and John were brothers. If you are uncertain of your ancestry, this DNA test would at least help in your research by establishing weather or not you are descended from the brothers. I would already have submitted a sample but, unfortunately, MILLER doesn’t cut it. Curtis Miller
