    2. April 8 1808 Issue of Millers Weekly Messenger (Excerpt from the Carolina Herald and Newsletter of Jan 2001) Letters remaining in the Post Office at Pendleton on April 1, 1808 for Absalom Melilock and Capt. Medlock.........Which of the Medlocks/Matlocks had the designation of Capt.? Revolutionary rank or state militia rank? The only Rev. soldiers I can think of off the top of my head were the 2 Captains Mattocks, Charles and John, who fought at Kings Mountain. I am seeing that there was a Valentine Mattox said to have been born abt 1750 Bedford Co VA refered to as Capt..it is believed that he married Sarah Shrewsbury and is said to have died 1825 Wayne Co KY.. This is the info I have on Valentine now if hes a the Capt mentioned above, I dont know... Valentine Mattox signed the Oath of Allegiance in Bedford County in 1777 – Nathaniel Shewsbury on 15 August, and "Val Maddox" - probably Valentine Mattox - signed on 10 October (DAR Magazine, December 1957, p. 1343). Valentine Matlock in Bedford Co., VA.....1787 census VA, Bedford Co #205; Valentine Matlock; 00067, 6 horses or mares, 7 cattle The closest that I can get to a Valentine being in KY was this: 1820 MATTOX ----TINE * Daviess Co KY 013 301101-21101-01
