    3. Good Morning Lynn I made those changes. Amanda went with a different Stephen. I sent out all I had on this family. I don't have an older Stephen or a William in the area at the right time. Any idea who they may be? Joe Matlock >>> "Lynn Hall" <lmhall@houston.rr.com> 5/6/2004 7:38:08 PM >>> Thanks Joe, for bringing up my gggrandfather, Stephen Matlock of Orangeburg County, SC and Tattnall County, GA. Is anyone else out there researching this family.? I still have not been able to link them into an earlier family. Stephen could have been the son of the earlier Stephen Matlock who lived on Grannies's Quarter Creek north of Camden, SC just before the Revolutionary War battle of Camden. A William Matlock lived nearby and may have been his brother. In Orangeburg, the younger Stephen bought land in Liberty County, GA with John Duke. Liberty County was just east of Stephen's plantation, which he developed later in Tattnall County. He was one of the largest land owners in the county and owned many slaves. Extensive records of the settling of his estate are available at the Tattnall County Courthouse. It took seven years to finish settling Stephen's estate. Joe, you have that Stephen Matlock, Jr. married Amanda Jane Callihan before he married Elizabeth Tillman. I have no record of that and I have that he and Elizabeth married young in Georgia. Could you tell me where you found Amanda? Also, I have that my great grandmother, Florida Matlock married Dr. Lewis DeSheels first. He died soon after their marriage and she married Elza Tillman, Elizabeth Tillman's brother. He died in the Civil War. Then in the 1870s she married Thomas P. Payne. I would greatly appreciate any information about this family that anyone might have. Lynn M.
