    1. Eliza
    2. Hi, Can anyone out there tell me anything more about an Eliza Cardwell who married William Brown on Dec 8 1850 in Jefferson, AL ? I am still trying to document the elusive "Eliza Medlock" who may or may not have been the daughter of Moses and Nancy Perryman Medlock in Monroe County, Al. She would be the right age and the marriage the right year for my Eliza. I can't find anything more about her on census, etc as Eliza Cardwell or Eliza Brown. My great grandmother, mother of my grandmother Belle (Isabel) was Susan Cardwell so I know that the families were connected. Any input appreciated. Emma in NM

    3. Hi KirkFinally got this thing to run...The Matlock and Matlack families are we suspect decedent of a pair of "brothers" William Matlack and John Matlock both from England. William, a Quaker, going to New Jersey and John to Virginia. We know that the families moved back and forth between the two areas. The Matlack's going then into Pennsylvania and the Matlocks to North Carolina and South Carolina. The Medlock families of the Carolina's are genetically linked to the Matlock's of Virginia and Tennessee and then points west. I suspect that the Joseph Matlack who marries Julia Scot and fathers Joseph Scot Matlick is a relation to one of the Pennsylvania branches. I and several others who are looking hard at the connection have not yet found the proof. But you are the proof*Several of the family have begun a DNA testing program for all branches of the family. The URL below will take you to the site; explain the program and the cost (not much really). You can also find al! l of the other trees in the program. The current test only works for males who have surname; hence you are the perfect candidate*the missing link as it were. If your DNA matches our then the riddle is solved. We know who you are. I encourage you to consider this opportunity. In the mean time keep looking around we are out there some where Joe Matlock http://www.ba044ancestry.com/Matlock/DNA.html From: > To: "Joe Matlock" <Joe.Matlock@state.tn.us>Date: 4/3/2004 10:57 PMSubject: Re: Joseph Matlack Hello Joe!Sorry I haven't responded sooner, I've been away. 3. hi Linda Garrison's family is the question of this family group. Keep hoping some one will find the clue or deed or Bible that will fill us in. In the mean time good luck... Joe Matlock Descendants of Garrison Gibson Medlock Generation No. 1 1. GARRISON GIBSON1 MEDLOCK was born 19 April 1820 in Laurens County, South Carolina, and died 13 November 1896 in Henry County, Georgia. He married REBECCA EVELYN SHAW POOLE 1840 in Laurens County, South Carolina ?, daughter of WILLIAM POOLE and CATHERINE. She was born 26 July 1824, and died 02 August 1897 in Georgia. This couple is buried in the Abercombie-Babb-Conkle-Wallace Family Cemetery, Henry County, Georgia.. Notes for GARRISON GIBSON MEDLOCK:SOME OF THIS FAMILY USES THE SURNAME MEDLOCK. In 1850 this family is living in Henry County, Georgia Notes for this family and its descendency are from Elizabeth G. Dellinger T2Sisters@AOL.COM."Our Medlock name is believed from family legend to have begun with a family or clan living near the River Medlock, Lancashire, England. Our roots begin with Garrison Gibson Medlock. He told his children before he died that his parents were not married and that he was raised by his grandparents The John Medlocks. Garrison and Rebecca Medlock left their home, with 4 of their 14 children, near Anderson SC about 1848 and settled in Clayton County, GA ( Henry County ?) between Jonesboro and McDonough. He and three sons-in-law served in the Confederate War. His unit followed the Union Army after it had passed through Henry County to the coast. He later served as a guard at the Andersonville Military Prison. He was a deacon in the Baptist church near Lovejoy, Ga and is said to have been very loyal. Garrison is said to have three loves in his life his family, his church, and his farming. THESE DATES FOR GARRISON'S MOTHER DO NOT WORK. COULD HAVE BEEN A SISTER TO JOHN REEDER OR OTHER WISE RELATED? Garrison Gibson Medlock purchased land in Albertville, Al after the Civil War but he never lived there. He would travel to Albertville once a year to collect rent. His children Molly and John Reeder also bought land in that area. John R and his brother James Garrison later moved to Albertville. Garrison G. Medlock was a farmer. He planted cotton, corn, peas, wheat, and oats. He planted all of the food for his live stock and all the vegetables for his family. He raised hogs, cows, sheep, etc. He would shear the sheep, and his wife would wash, dye and spin the wool into thread making the family clothes and bed linen." According to Jo Medlock the middle name is "GIPSON" From: "Macie Lewis" <maciebl@bellsouth.net>To: <jmatlock@mail.state.tn.us>Date: 1/2/01 7:19PMSubject: Medlock/Medlock Hello Joe, I retired in 1993 and decided I would investigate and find out who I am. An aunt of mine had joined several organizations where she had to have proof of ancestors being in armed services. When she died I came into possession of a box of disorganized notes, etc that she had collected and that is where I got lots of my information. I am still working on this project and had a lot of unanswered questions that I probably will never find the answer. According to my records John R(I believe Reeder) was born in Laurens County, S. C. on Dec. 15, 1796, died Nov 13, l862, on Oct 27, l819 he married Lucinda Mayfield who was born August 6, l802. Some records show her birthdate to be 1798. Lucinda was born in Gwinnett Co. Ga and died 1860 or 1862 in either Goodspeed or Cleveland, Ark. My records show their children to be:Sally-born 1820, Mary Ann-1822, James M.-1823, Laurency-1825(this may be your Lorena)William F.-1827(changed spelling to Medlock),John Washington-1829, Elizabeth Caroline-1831,Miles Jefferson-1833, Lucindy Jane-1835,Battle W.-1837, Samantha and Damantha(twins)-1839, Giles Matison-1842, Alexander Pinto-1845,Nancy Ann-`1847(notes indicate of the 15 children 7 spelled the name Medlock, 8 retained Medlock. John Reeder and Lucinda Medlock is supposed to have raised Garrison Gibson Medlock (their grandson) who was born in 1820, out of wedlock. I believe they had a daughter named Mary who was probably Garrison's mother, but nothing can be found on her. Back during that day & time the worst shame one could bring on their family was to have a child out of wedlock. (my, how times have changed). Garrison Gibson Medlock was my great grandfather, his son George Benjamin Davis Medlock, born in Lovejoy, Clayton County, Ga -died Aug 14, l947, was my grandfather. He married my grandmother, Ophelia Caroline Hamilton, born Aug 17, l870 in Lovejoy, GA, died Aug. 1961, they are both buried in Jonesboro Cemetary, Jonesboro,Clayton Co. GA. My mother was their daughter, Winnie Davis Medlock Brown, born Mar 11, 1907, died Aug 1, l988. I believe this is probable a shared family. I have lots more notes and documents to sort to find out who some names that appear in them are. Let me know if you have any more information I can use and I will do the same. 3. Hi Joe, It is good to question. I got that info from David Nixon. We do know from the 1860 census that the son of silas WH his wife and one year old daughter were living in the same household as David Y Pope and Mary Medlock. David's other brother Henry C Pope married the daughter of Silas. Martha E Medlock We have just confirmed, in the last few days, that David Y Pope returned to SC in 1860 and attended the sale of the husband (Benjamin Johnson) of one of Mary's sisters which was attended by the whole family of James Medlock already dead by then) but his wife, son and other daughters were there. Sam PS We really need Cleburn to take a DNA test to prove the close ties we think were between Silas and James

    3. Good Morning Sam When Silas died is a question. Found this note in my stuff. If how ever this is same guy buying land then ..... Joe Matlock Cleburne Waldemar Medlock, Jr. proamsoft@worldnet.att.net 2003-01-11 13:37:00 It is likely, but NOT certain, that the Silas MEDLOCK buried in Center Point, AR is the SAME Silas (my GreatGrandFather) referenced on p. 289b (dated 12 Nov 1850) of the 1850 Laurens Co., SC census, where the latter's age was given as 52. This places his d.o.b. between 13 Nov 1797 and 12 Nov 1798, NOT in 1801! Likewise, Catherine's age is shown on that same page as either 45 or 48, requiring her d.o.b. to be between 13 Nov 1801 and 12 Nov 1805, NOT 1809! If his d.o.d., as shown on the Center Pont headstone, is 1 Feb 1855 (NOT 1859 -- it is easy to misread fives as nines, in that the only difference is the closure on the upper loop!), at age 57, then he would have been born between 2 Feb 1797 and 1 Feb 1798! Similarly, if his age at death was 59 (NOT 57 -- nines often look like sevens when worn down on the lower left of the upper loop!), a d.o.d. of 1 Feb 1859 would produce a d.o.b between 2 Feb 1799 and 1 Feb 1800. Correct? >>> Samuel W Medlock <swmed@juno.com> 3/27/2004 8:42:04 AM >>> Arkansas land records. To Silas Medlock. Land Office Washington County Arkansas 78.31 Acres Issue date 01 May 1856.
