    1. Royal/Rial
    2. Some where along the line and through time I have seen where Royal and Rial were one and the same.. today I typed in Royal Medlock to see what would come up.. I dont think They are the same anymore.. take a look at this: Royal (Rial) Matlock to Nancy Mahan 3 September 1806 Now I have to ask the Question... Did Royal marry Nancy, or did Rial? Perhaps as Mary Jean was asking... Are there 2 different ones we have collected info on? 3. Joe, A Mr. Mitchell descends from the Thomas B. that you have as son of Isaac and Jane Selvidge... He has old letters and family records that states that he was married to Miram Dixon. The Thomas B. is not Thomas Benjamin but Thomas Benton. Thomas that married to Miram Dixon was son of Jesse Matlock and Elender M. McPherson of Roane County, TN. I had Thomas B. and had reserached him on census. When talking with Brenda awhile back she had this Thomas B. as Thomas that was son of Isaac and I had the same Thomas B. reserached and tied to Jesse. Then she knew of this Mr. Mitchell who claimed he had letters and family record. Well his records show that Thomas B. was Jesse's. 1. Rial
    2. I thought I had seen some where that Rial had died fighting at the Alamo.. I too could find nothing to back that up... But Joe as you said.. Not all names were perhaps listed.. Thinking about Rial's wife Nancy.. and of course not knowing it she was with him in these different counties or if she stayed behind in Roane Co where they married.. I was wondering if there are any Nancys listed that dont have a named husband that is unaccounted for that perhaps could be his wife? A Nancy perhaps in SC, AL or TN? TX even if she made it that far with Rial? Did people back in the 1840-50 move off to Mexico to escape the law? Does Mexico even have census and or type records.. Maybe Rial disappeared in Mexico? LOL I know thats a long shot.. But does anyone know about what records are in Mexico? Brenda

I had an great Uncle down the line by that name. He was born around 1911 to Nathaniel B. Matlock, as shown on the Arkansas Census for 1920. Do you, by chance, have any info on this? I am finding very little. In fact none of that bunch are on any cencus I can find prior to or after 1920. Weird.

    1. Rial
    2. Mary Jean, I have to agree with you about the #1 Rial #1 -Rial/Reel/Royal Matlock ---- TENNESSEE ? - b. 1780/84 Rial and Jason rowdy - TENNESSEE - 1804 Rial - Taxes -----Roane Co, TENN - 1805 Rial m. Nancy ------Roane Co, TENN - 1806 Reel & Berry ---?MISS territory - 1810 Rial - Vagrant - SOUTH CAROLINA - 1811 Rial - Burglary & escapee - Robertson Co TENN - 1816 You said: "The MISS to SC jump is certainly surprising" Im not sure it was a jump from MS to SC.. This came from a Petition from Simm's Settlement and surrounding area.. the two that are noted as far as Matlock are concerned was Berry Matlock and Rial Matcok it says: Although commonly referred to as the "Simms' Settlement Petition," numerous of the 450 men and women (Intruders) who signed the following document were residing elsewhere within the untreated Chickasaw lands, including Giles County, although Simms Settlement (on the Elk River in present-day Limestone County, Alabama, just south of Giles) does appear to have been where the settlers' returned to re-group following the 1809 Intruder Removals Now I may be wrong, but the Berry Matlock listed above, I have as the son of Luke.. It has been said that Littleberry son of Luke married Nancy Strothers..Dau of John Strothers.. John Strothers,( Of course I have no way of knowing if this is Nancy father) Happens to be in the same area....This Littleberry I believe goes to Limestone Co and later to Tippah Co MS.. Theres a real interesting write up on the Simms Settlement and Early History of Giles Co TN.. The address is http://www.tngenweb.org/giles/history/ms-ss.html the page where Berry and Rial are mentioned is at this address http://www.tngenweb.org/giles/history/1810pet.html As to who Rials father is, Im just not sure.. As Wanda says, at times he around Moores sons.. But If hes a brother, Nephew or Cousins, I cant tell.. He does at one point spend time around Littleberry Matlock son of Luke.. as mentioned above but maybe they are cousins? the only one who seemed to care about naming their sons with the name Rial was Absolom son of Moore.. which makes you want to say its because Absolom and Rial were brothers is why... If Rial was born abt the time we are guessing.. Maybe Absolom took Rial in after their mother died and was close to boy? I suppose this is one that we will never know actually who is who... I just wonder what happened to POOR Nancy.. Rial's wife? and did they have Kids? That poor Nancy with Rial in and out of Jail had to be tough on her! Some where I have seen that it was believed that Rial was killed at the Alamo.. I tried to find proof to this, but didnt.. Theres not alot out there on that War. that I was able to find.. So cant say if he died there or not... If I was to guess as to who his father is I would Pick Moore. and the only reason why I would is because of the association with Absolom naming his sons Rial.. Dear Wanda, Joe, Brenda and all: Of all the Rials (5 I think thus accumulated) the below "Rial" is the most confusing and questionable, based on the evidenced. #1 -Rial/Reel/Royal Matlock ---- TENNESSEE ? - b. 1780/84 Rial and Jason rowdy - TENNESSEE - 1804 Rial - Taxes -----Roane Co, TENN - 1805 Rial m. I am wondering indeed if they are all the same Rial and interested to see who you determine is his father. The MISS to SC jump is certainly surprising. The Rials of Kentucky, however seem to fit in your line up with Absolum Matlock. Hope you don't mind my intrusion, but this one really caught my eye. Medlock.........Which of the Medlocks/Matlocks had the designation of Capt.? Revolutionary rank or state militia rank? The only Rev. soldiers I can think of off the top of my head were the 2 Captains Mattocks, Charles and John, who fought at Kings Mountain. I am seeing that there was a Valentine Mattox said to have been born abt 1750 Bedford Co VA refered to as Capt..it is believed that he married Sarah Shrewsbury and is said to have died 1825 Wayne Co KY.. This is the info I have on Valentine now if hes a the Capt mentioned above, I dont know... Valentine Mattox signed the Oath of Allegiance in Bedford County in 1777 * Nathaniel Shewsbury on 15 August, and "Val Maddox" - probably Valentine Mattox - signed on 10 October (DAR Magazine, December 1957, p. 1343). Valentine Matlock in Bedford Co., VA.....1787 census VA, Bedford Co #205; Valentine Matlock; 00067, 6 horses or mares, 7 cattle The closest that I can get to a Valentine being in KY was this: 1820 MATTOX ----TINE * Daviess Co KY 013 301101-21101-01 ==== MATLOCK Mailing List ==== To UNSUBSCRIBE from this list, email MATLOCK-L-request@rootsweb.com, use no subject line and write only the word UNSUBSCRIBE in the message body.
