    3. Good Morning List I have recently begin transcribing a chart beginning with the family shown immediately below (ISHAM ELIAS1 MATLOCK was born Bef. 1765 in Virginia). Does anybody know of this family?? As I began to work with the data I begin to realize some commonality with the family on the second chart below (ISHAM - ISOM ESUA9 MATLOCK (ZACHARIAH) was born 1782 in Halifax County, Virginia). They start in the same area and move west to Arkansas and Missouri at about the same time. At least one group from each dying together in the Oregon flood at the turn of the century. If anybody has any ideas, please speak up. I will be glad to send the rest of the charts but they are several pages long. (1)11 Dec 1817 Moses Hill, in Clarke County, AL, (2) Thomas Matlock. In corresponding with others I have that Thomas Matlock married Elizabeth Rodgers and had children 1. Thomas Matlock b. 1814 - d. 1860 Houston Co, TX. 2. William Rodgers Matlock b. 24 Jul 1823 - d. 8 Feb 1864, TX. Can anyone explain... She married Hill in 1817. So when did she marry Thomas Henry Matlock. A son Thomas Matlock born about 1814. Then William Rodgers Matlock was b. 24 Jul 1823. Just curious as this is said to be the Thomas Matlock s/o of my William Matlock Sr. born 1753/1755 in VA... Elizabeth is the daughter of James Rodgers and Elly Hays who married in Greene Co., 20 Dec 1790 according to this article. 1. [MATLOCK-L] This note of interest to our African - American researchers,
    2. Joe Matlock
    3. Good Morning all While furthering the search for sources for Dr. Matlock's work I found this note of interest to our African - American researchers, particularly those interested in the Mississippi branch of the family. This branch originated in Franklin County Tennessee. This short notice is interesting for as much as what it does not say to what is recorded. It does not say what the relation ship between Mary E. and William H. Matlock is. Husband - wife; father -daughter or what ever. Or is Mary the slave (most likely) John's wife? And perhaps more correctly their child and perhaps a younger sister Anne. However it does give some important information on John. He is a mulatto; a half white. Immediately below is chart for a William Matlock who is in Franklin County at the right time and has a wife named Mary Elizabeth (this is all of the information I have on this family) and they have children named John and Mary. Slaves were often give family names especially if they are born at about the same time as white children they will accompany in life. I do not have a middle initial for this William and while is born in Franklin County I show him dead in DeSoto County, Mississippi Bef 1840, however His son James Madison (b. 22 May 1811, Franklin County Tennessee; d. 1847; m. MARY HELENA GRAY, 13 October 1835, Franklin County Tennessee; b. 1811) is a life long resident of Franklin County, Tennessee. His Children are born between 1836 and 1843. Too young to conduct business. If not in this family then who? Enter Dr. Matlock's James Madison (born 1799 in Carter County, Tennessee, and died 1870 in Elks River, Winchester, Franklin County, Tennessee. He is buried somewhere on the property.. He married ELIZABETH ANN HUSTON 1816 in Elks River, Winchester, Franklin County, Tennessee. She was born 1800.) Their son William Huston Matlock ( 14 January 1819, Franklin County Tennessee; d. 07 July 1878, Franklin County, Tennessee. He is believed to be buried at the old family grave yard near Elk river.; m. LUCY ELIZABETH MOORE, January 1840, Franklin County Tennessee; b. 18 January 1824; d. 19 January 1904), who is the right place and has just turned 21. The questions are then: 1. What is the relationship between Mary E. and William Huston Matlock? 2. Who are John the Slaves parents to command so high a price in the family? 3. Where do we go from here? Your comments are invited Best regards Joe Matlock FRANKLIN COUNTY, TENNESSEE PEOPLE OF COLOR Transcribed by Judy Henley Phillips The following deeds are abstracted from the Franklin County Deed Books for the year 1840. " It is a curious fact that the 3 boys, James, William, and Jefferson went to Mississippi in 1844 to claim land just out from Hernando Ms. (south of Memphis), when that territory opened up. It is believed James and Jefferson remained there, although William returned to the Elk River Homestead and eventually inherited it. However, his 3rd child, Mary Elizabeth, was born in Mississippi.
