There are so many names in the indexes from 1790-1850 that it is overwhelming.Instead listing them all separate I will list just the names If you have any of these names in your tree, and want your Email address next to them let me know.. Starting with A there is: Abisha Matlock Arron Mattox Abram Abraham Absolom Adaline Adam Allen Alexander Alfred Alindingo Amelia Amon Amos Anderson Andrew Ann Anderson Aquilla Arabella Arnold Asa Alantic Agustus Austin
I was thinking, If it would be easier, I could post by Year... And you could check and see if your instead of by Name. Would that be easier? _ _ _ I'll be glad to go along with any idea you come up with. My experience is that you generally come up with good ones!! [email protected]

Good Mroning Matlock researchers! I am in the process of helping Shawn update the Census pages on the Matlock Web site. This project may take me months to years to complete, but I would someday like to do all States 1790-1930. Anyway for now I am working on 1790-1850. I was wondering on What you all thought about... On the index pages... adding Ones Email Address next to the person that they are most interested? That way so when ever someone visited the Matlock Web site, and seen that they were interested in the same person as you, they could Email you to compare notes. If your Interested in this idea, Let me Know and somehow we can figure out how to go about this... Right now, I have First Names of Matlocks indexed >From A-D. I guess I could Post All the A's and If there is one on that List that is yours you could Email Me and I could enter your Email address near that Name? Anyway let me know on what you think of this idea and we can go from there. Brenda
In an attempt of Organizing and collecting Matlocks from 1790- 1850 From Census readings only, (I have along ways to go on getting all that I want to do), This probably isnt much help but atleast we know there were atleast 3 Ishams by 1830. If you go to the Matlock web site Jess Armstrong came up with 4 Ishams :Hope this Helps. 1. That was born in Va, and never left Va. ISHAM MEDLOCK, born ca 1762, in Augusta Co., Va. Married l788 in Botetourt Co., Va. To Martha. Children : Martha, Isham, Charles, George, Polly and Claretta. Isham died ca 1825 Botetourt Co., Va. Isham served in the American Revolutionary War as evidenced by many payroll records beginning 1776 until 1782. He served in the 7th Va. Regt. 2.ISHAM MEDLOCK , in Washington Co., Ky. 1800. To Missouri in 1818. Known son - Robert. 3 ISHAM ESAU, born 1782 in Virginia, son of Zachariah and Edith Matlock.. Served in War of 1812. from Carter Co., Tn. Lived in Washington Co,. He married Nancy Ellen Hale and had the following children: John, Elizabeth, Strange, William, Jerome, Jess Haile, James Miller, Thomas Buckingham, David Boone and two girls names unknown. 4 ISHAM MEDLOCK, born 1777 in Virginia. Married 1799 to Susannah Williams. They lived in the Greenville Dist. of S. C. and later to Gwinett Co. , Ga. Some children according to descendant were: John Williams, James Isham Henry, Moore, Nathaniel, Lewis Henry and Mastin DeLoney. After the death of Susannah, Isham remarried and went to Cherokee Co., Ala. He died here in 1852 and he and his son, Mastin DeLoney are buried in the Salem Cemetery at Cedar Bluffs, Ala. Isham does not show in Cherokee Co., Ala. in 1840. John R. (who is in Gwinnett Co., Ga. with Isham) does. John R. is in Arkansas in 1850. Isham shows in Cherokee Co., Ala. in 1850 as follows: Iceharn Medlock 73 born Va. Mary 52, born Ga. Didama 23, born Ga. Thomas 15, and Green T. 13 born Ga >From What I could find from the Census Shows: the first one to appear was in 1810 in KY: 1810 MATLOCK ISHAM Washington County KY 291 22101-21201-00 It shows that Isham was 45 and up andthat he was the father of 10 children. ( of course I cant name them for the names werent listed on the 1810 census.) This is where it is going to take me along to get this done for I have yet to view all of the 1820 census 1820 there were 2 Ishams one was in Ga and the other perhaps the one from 1810 was still in KY? 1820 MEADLOCH ISHAM Casey County KY 218 No Township Listed 1820 MEDLOCK ISHAM Gwinnett County GA 269 No Township Listed 201110-01010 by 1830 there were 3 1830 MEDLOCK ISHAM Gwinnett County GA 356 No Township Listed 1830 MIDLOCK ISHAM Mercer County KY 322 No Township Listed 111001-1210001 This Isham says he is 30-40 1830 MATLOCK ISHAM Washington County TN 200 No Township 1111001-1001001 This Isham says he was 40-50 born abt 1780-1790 1840 I Show none by the spelling of Isham but do under Isom 1840 MATTOCK ISOM Crawford County MO 165 Johnson Township 1840 MATTOCK ISOM Crawford County MO 168 Johnson Township 1840 MATTOCK ISOM Crawford County MO 176 Watkins Township
Brenda I got a chance to go through your material this after and this is a rush to judgement. I believe we are dealing with two separate but related families as shown below. The easy way out is to change the birthdays to match and give old Isham three wives. Zechariah would not have given two sons the same name and Moore does not seem to have named anyone Isham. I assume you are number 87. Got to run for the weekend Joe Matlock Descendants of Isham Elias Matlock Generation No. 1 1. I was wondering what all name spellings fall under Matlock? Medlock, Mattock, Mattox etc??? Brenda
Joe and Brenda, To muddy the waters a little further. This is my view. Here is the 1850 census for Luke Matlock Jr. There is no E. D born 1832. There is no Absolom born 1846. If Absolom was born in 1846 surely he would be on the census for 1850 and 1860; unless the census taker made two errors. E. D. might have left home already by the time the 1850 census was taken. 1850 TN, Humphreys Co, Hu-96-118 Luke Matlock, 44,TN; Eleanor 43 TN; John 19, William 16, Ellyann 12, Edward 9, Elzabeth 4, Thomas 1, Luke Matlock 84 --- William C Matlock married Mary Ann Choate 9-12-1855 (9-13-1855) in Dickson Co, TN .. Not Humphrey Co.. The first date is the date the licenses was issued; the second date is the date the marriage was solemnized. ---- I do not find a marriage for Edward Morgan Matloc or E M or Morgan Matlock in the TN marriages. Did they marry elsewhere? --- Joe, I also have that Ned is son of Smith but don't know where I came up with this conculsion (probably another correspondent bedore I kept better notes).. But, I have found others that believe that Smith might be son of Luke Sr. instead of the John Wesley you mentioned as son of Moore. I have several John W.'s but only have one John Wesley. The John Wesley that I have is chold of David Matlock and Nancy Agnes Lee who was born 1820 in IN and died after 1883 place unknown. I have that the Smith that was born 1811 that had a son John W. This John W. was born about 1844 and that his spouse might be a Laura ?? --- Are there more than 2 Smith Matlock's? Looking at the 1850 census I find that there is a Smith in Perry Co.. Smith Mattock 25, Letsy 22, Luke 2/12... Who does this one belong to? Joe, I should have looked at the previous post that you did. Before I ask questions about Smith Matlock.... I have been out of town and I had so many e-mails that I didn't take time to read all of them. Now that I'm reading them I can see that there are several Smith 's. Also I'm curious as to the source of the Moore Matlock's son John and his middle name and his children.... Did he leave a will or is there a Bible record? Margaret You are partially right. These folk "Dennis & Mary Lou Byerly <[email protected]>" are seeing some of the same problems in researching there family. Apparently the short of it is that the town in England is spelled "MatlOck" but pronounced "MatlAck". For some reason (spelling in colonial America was not standardized) William in New Jersey and his family begin or continued to spell the name as it was pronounced "MatlAck, while John and others who went south begin to pronounced it as it was spelled "MatlOck". There are exceptions a family is Penn. and one in Missouri that uses both. In Texas there are some "Madlock's". There are several excellent Matlack web site with lots of charts. But stay on the list some of the older families are the same and your input (and everyone else)is always need. Some time the smallest bit of information can link a family chart to another one. I'm still trying to document parents/siblings/children for this couple. Moses MAY have been a son of Samuel and Nelly Medlock, with a brother named Benjamin. I cannot document that for sure. Moses and Nancy Perryman Medlock are said to have had 5 children. I have found one daughter Sophia for sure, possibly a Martha, but no names for the sons. Any clues appreciated. Emma in NM
