    1. [MATLOCK-L] Charles N. Matlock's Marrage
    2. Chas N. b. about 1827, d. about 1854 in DeSota Co., Miss. (written in at the side, "N or W" ? m. Blassingame) The DeSota County, MS, License Bureau has one Charles N. Matlock and Sarah E. Blassingame marrying on May 31, 1849. Have no idea what "N or W" mean unless it's because for years DeSota County maintained two books on marriages. One for Whites and one for Blacks. Aren't it fun !!

    3. John Good to here from you again...I knew that there had to be some one who had commented on DR. Matlock's work. As I noted when I put a copy of the chart from his work on the list, I disagree with some of his work. I begin checking your transcript of the Treadwell comments against my copy of the Dr.'s work and found that some of the comments had been taken to heart. There are dates that now agree with the notes. However I am still confused on how many family groups went to Mississippi and when. (The Treadwell notes mix the children of the groups). My current thinking (but I am flexible) is that we have two groups who unfortunately have the same names (but show me a Matlock family without a James or William). After reading through the Treadwell comments this morning I thought I would check further. Unfortunately Franklin county, Tennessee marriage records only exist before 1835 as a restoration; the originals having been destroyed. The only Matlocks listed are James Matlock to Helene Gray 13 oct 1835 and John Matlock to Eliza Williams 1832 in Salem Tn. The records of the cemetery mention in Dr. Matlock's work would be easy enough to check if they had not published and copyrighted in 1984 and are not available on line. If William Huston Matlock (14 Jan 1819 - 7 Jul 1878) who married Lucy Moore did not exits but was William Henry; then why create or remember an incorrect middle name. After all Gen. Houston's youngest sister was named Eliza...unfortunately she married a Dr. Samuel Moore 21 July 1821 in Blount County, Tn. However there is more than one Sam Houston and more than one Eliza. Blount County marriage alone list Eliza, Elizabeth and two Betsey's...so the name may well be correct but the relationship wrong. I am going to check with the Franklin County government to see if they have a list of county judges. If so checking who served should be easy. I will get back to you on that. While I am not ready to give up on the DR.'s work I must admit that it exhibits some confusion. I just called Franklin county; the cemetery records and the county court records are in the TSLA here and maybe I can get there and look it up. I will let you know what I find. If and this is a big if; if this is all incorrect then who are the people of the even earlier generations. Who is the John Matlock 1715 -1788 who married Rachel Spotswood? and further back??? thanks for the help Joe Matlock >>> "John M. Am sure you know Chas. and Isreal Matlock lived in Anson Co., N.C. at oeast as early as May, 1768. Names appear on deeds and petitions in Anson Co. Court records. They signed a petition Oct. 23, 1779, requesting the division of Anson Co. along Pee Dee River to form Anson and Richmond Co. Name appeared in many court records. The last I noticed was in 1782. Stephen Treadwell, my ancester was there at the same time - He was off into Montgomry Co. when it was formed. He was a Lt. in the Rev. War. Chas. Matlock was a Major and Col. J. W. William Matlock whose wife was Mary E. sold his land in Franklin Co., Tenn. Dec. 19, 1829 but stayed in Franklin Co. untill after the Federal Census of 1830. Both William and James appear as head of household in Franklin Co., Tenn. in 1830. Soon after 1830 William and his family went to Madison Co., Miss. The first recorded purchase of land was Feb. 1832. There is a letter in the Court files of Madison Co., Miss. signed by Mrs. Mary E. Matlock, addressed to Judge Callaghan asking that her husbands brother James Matlock be appointed as Adm. of her deceased husband's estate. The files show that James handled the estate untill his death possiblt in Aug. 1836, or at least between May and Sept. 1836. Williams death occurred Dec. 19, 1832. I failed to show this when I mentioned Mary E. letter to Judge Callahan. Mary Matlock, wife of James wrote Judge Callahan on Sept. 1, 1836 that her husband James had died and that she wanted her nephew James Madison Matlock to handle her deseased husband's estate, as she could not handle it and that she thought her nephew was well able to manage it. James M. (who m. He sold everything he had even his house furnishings and went to Miss. where his brother James N. and the rest of the family and his uncle James was located. I would like very much to learn the names of the parents of James and Wm. brother who came to Franklin Co., Tenn. in 1824 or earlier. The James M. son of James of Franklin Co. did not serve in the Civil War. He died in DeSota Co., Miss. in 1854. His father-in-law, Edmund Dyer was named adminstrater of his estate. It is possible that his widow Mary Jane is the Mary J. Matlock who married S.M. Thomas, Sept. 27, 1856 in DeSota Co. V. 2 page 3. There is not any record of a Wm. Houston Matlock, son of a James Madison, having married Lucy E. Moore. The recorded amd proven records in Franklin Co., Tenn. and in Madison Co., Miss. show that the Wm. H. who married Lucy E. He sold everything he had even his house furnishings and went to Miss. where his brother James N. and the rest of the family and his uncle James was located. He stayed there a very short 5time before returning to Franklin Co., Tenn. where he lived out his life and had a large family. I V.3 page 3. Elizabeth Ann - dau. of James, m. I would like very much to learn the names of the parents of James and Wm. brother who came to Franklin Co., Tenn. in 1824 or earlier. The earliest record I have of them are deeds for sale for land on Boiling Fork of Elk River, on Beans Creek, Dry Creek and on Cumberland Mt. at Painted Rock between 1824 and 1828. John J. 3. Voices from the Past O have had e-mail from six or seven people, over the past three or four years, who were researching the Mississippi Matlock's. I have now lost your address. In 1974, I corresponded with Mrs. J.W. Tredwell of Little Rock, Ar., about the Franklin Co., Tn. to DeSota Co., Ms. Matlock's. My James M. Matlock is suppose to be in Misssissippi 1860 census. I looked her James M. Matlock over very carefully. In the process, she sent me several letters containing information she had found about the DeSota Co., Ms. Matlock's, which contain notes from her research material about the family. Last week, while looking through some old material, I found a long letter, five typed, legal pages, which I haven't looked at in years. This letter was in the wrong file. It has lots of information and clues which some of you have ask about in the past. I will gladly share this with you if you will wend me your E-Mail address. It will take me some time to type. The old Hunt and Peck keeps getting slower and slower. Thanks, John M. Matlock [email protected]

    3. Posted on: MEDLOCK Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/surnames/m/e/MEDLOCK/queries/5 Surname: MEDLOCK, HUFFMAN ------------------------- I WELCOME suggestions, contributions, solutions, hints and clues on the resolution of this puzzle. Susan Gillberg Sep 21 2000 Family Group Sheet Husband: Charles Medlock #3961 Born: Jan 17 1834 in: TN/AR Died: Dec 13 1911 in: Austin, Travis Co., TX 1 Buried: in: Crabapple Cem, Gillespie Co., TX Father: Thomas Medlock #9826 Mother: Unknown Spouse Medlock #9827 CHARLES MEDLOCK Charles was m1 to unknown, m2 to Olivine Huffman Charles and Olivine may have lived in Palestine, Anderson Co., TX [Need the 1910 Census/Soundex, obits, land records, wills, etc] Acc to Mark Moss and Mrs Shirley Lawson, Charles and Olivine actually died in Austin, although they were shipped back to the [Lower] Crabapple Cem., in Llano Co., TX for burial Since both Charles and Olivine were in the buggy/wagon, with son Charles was driving the team, and both were injured when it overturned, then they both were injured in Austin? One history (I think that is Violet Tuttle Smith's) lists both of them as having died in Palestine, Anderson Co. There's a book [information was supplied by one of Charles' children or grandchildren] has them buried in Cup Bird Cem., wherever that is. Geog. Info. mapping system found NO Cup Bird Cem. in Anderson, Llano, Burnet, Gillespie, Houston counties, and found 3-4 cemeteries in Crabapple. Charles died on the 13th, Olivine on the 23, and I think Papa [Joel Sampson Smith] said the accident was on the 11th of October. Probably means that Olivine died in Austin, also, and was also subsequently shipped to the cemetery, but that depends on how badly injured she was, and whether she was removed from Austin prior to death and died in Palestine, Anderson Co., TX. Mike Moss further said that the Medlock place(farm or cemetery?) was in Llano Co., "just across the county line" (from Gillespie Co?), which means that when one County was formed from the other, one ended up with the Medlock place (farm?) and the other ended with the Cemetery. I figure someone took both of them there by wagon, unless they shipped the coffins by train to Fredericksburg? [Have to check the RR from Austin to Fredericksburg, and then check the route to the Cemetery.] Looking at the below items: Now, as you can see the POD is the same, Austin, Travis Co., TX, and that both histories have Charles b. in 1834, and that the name of what I myself think is the FIRST wife Melissa (m. Sep 29, 1859), whereas Olivine Huffman is definitely the SECOND wife of Charles -- and that m. date of 1859 would work very well for the two Charles Medlock, s/o Thomas, bro/o Thomas. since it would supply enough time for the 1st wife to have several children, die, and then for MY Charles to m2 to MY Olivine Huffman. Second [dumb] question I have was whether IN, AR, TN part of the SAME Territory before they each became a State in the Union? That needs research. Third question, where is Cub Bird Cem? Is that in Llano Co., Gillespie Co., Travis Co., Anderson Co., TX? That needs research. Or was [Lower] Crabapple Cem. renamed Cub Bird Cem? BLM-ES, GLO, etc. has no record of land patents for MEDLOCK in Texas HOUSTON County Texas ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/tx/houston/land/houston.txt Survey Blk Grantee Leag Section Abs [NO HUFFMAN] [NO MEDLOCK] Also, in the 1850 Cenus, Houston Co., TX, 356-356 there is a THOMAS MEDLOCK, age 42, b. HUFFMAN, 23, IL, Farmer, $160; Elizabeth, 18, IN; Eli B (m), 16, IL [Is Eli B. the same as Elijah Huffman, listed in the 1870 Burnet Cenus?] LLANO County Texas ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/tx/llano/land/llano.txt Survey Blk Grantee Leag Section Abs THOMAS MEDLOCK T. MEDLOCK 5 981 CHARLES MEDLOCK C. MEDLOCK 1037 CONCERNING the 1870 Cen, Burnet Co., TX, V3, S34, L33-37 I have listed [oral history] Anne Medlock, Jefferson Medlock [who m. Elizabeth Smith, d/o of John W. Smith and Delana/Caroline Wooten], and Elizabeth Medlock [apparently b. prior to 1870 Cen, Burnet Co., TX, V3, S34, L33-37 or deceased or living elsewhere, because they were NOT listed on as in Charles' household. On that Census were listed Charles, Olivine, Mary (who is Harriet), Jane and Charles Jr. Fourth question, in the 1870 Census in Burnet County (formed 1852 from Travis Co), Charles & Olivine are listed as b. TN/AR. Is that because of the Civil War, that being born in IN automatically made you a Yankee? I know of one case of a man and his brother, two men by the surname Record, both born in IN, who were lynched ca. 1868/72 in Dallas Co. because they were suspected (not proven) to have been Union/Yankee. That was the 1st husband of Sarah Susan(nah) Bullock who subsequently was the 2nd wife of my mother's paternal grandfather Burrell Bertram Howell. So, IF the Charles/Thomas Medlock of Houston Co in 1850 is the same Charles/Thomas Medlock of Llano Co., TX land records DID they choose to lie about that birth in IN? They spoke only German." which is what she was told by Papa (Granny Medlock Lawson Smith d. 1938 when Harriet was not quite age two, so it had to be Papa that told her about Elizabeth the half-sister.] The existence of Anne Medlock, Jefferson Medlock [who is reported to have m. Elizabeth Smith, d/o of John W. Smith and Delana/Caroline Wooten], and Elizabeth Medlock is so far only oral history from Harriet Smith Dunn, Joel Sampson Smith, Willie Faye Tuttle Tyler, Mark Moss, and several others, and I have not tried to track down these people on census or marriage records or burial records as yet. However, I have a solution -- perhaps -- for Melissa Olivine Huffman Medlock, in that I found on the 1900 Cenus, one Malicia (Unknown) Medlock, born Oct 1841, AR, possibly a widow, with one son in the household, Riley J Medlock b. I think I have emailed you both, quite a while ago in the past, asking about her, but wondered if you have come across anything new which might help me nail her down to one of the Matlock families. I'll recap what I know about her (unfortunately, not a lot!): She was born 1826 in TN; married William Purselley in 1842 in Roane Cty.; I have wondered if she and William's siblings were William Matlock and Margaret Purselley (who married in Roane Cty in 1844) and that siblings married siblings, but never could prove that one! Mary Jane and William Purselley moved to Bradley Cty and settled there; she died rather early--age 40--in 1866, and they are both buried in the Purselley Cemetery in Bradley Cty. They had 10 children: Thomas B. Jesse M. Famye or Phame E. Margaret James C. John M. William J. Sarah Elizabeth "Lizzy" Mary C. Christopher Columbus Son Jesse M. could've been named for Jesse Matlock? Brenda suggested that Thomas B. could've been named for Mary's brother, Thomas B., if she was indeed the daughter of Jesse Matlock of the below 1850 census. 1850 MATLOCK JESSE Roane County TN 350 20th Sub Division Jesse Matlock 54 WM Farmer B TN Elendor 50 WF TN John 22 WM TN Thomas B 19 WM TN James 17 WM TN Elizabeth 15 WF TN Jackson 8 WM TN Sarah Elendor 3 WF TN William P. and Mary J. are listed in the 1850 Bradley Cty census and then William is listed without her in the 1870 and 1880 Bradley Cty censuses. Do either of you have any thoughts on this?? I have sorta put the Matlocks and Purselleys on the back burner for months, just being frustrated at not being able to find her on anybody's census' or family member lists, but with all of the wonderful Matlock data that flies by regularly from Brenda and you two, I'm ready to get serious again about finding the ole girl. Many thanks to you for any pearls of wisdom you might share! Linda

    3. Sorry to be so late in geting back to you on this but I was more confused than with the Littleberry's. Part of the problem is that at least Isham No. 4 below should more properlly be listed as a Medlock than a Matlock. Most of the later records I found are under that name and that is a whole nother paper that I donot want to write. But anyway here is what I found. See if you agree. 1. That was born in Va, and never left Va. ISHAM MEDLOCK, born ca 1762, in Augusta Co., Va. Married l788 in Botetourt Co., Va. To Martha. Children : Martha, Isham, Charles, George, Polly and Claretta. Isham died ca 1825 Botetourt Co.>>> All I have found so far is what you sent. This then becomes the next mystery to unravel. Who are these people???? 2.ISHAM MEDLOCK , in Washington Co., Ky. 1800. To Missouri in 1818. Known son - Robert. I found little more on this guy. Robert might be the only proven one but a scoundrel none the less and no hero t the Carpenter family Descendants of Isham Elias Matlock 1. ISHAM ELIAS1 MATLOCK was born Bef. 1765 in Virginia, and died Aft. 1818 in Franklin County, Missouri. Children of ISHAM ELIAS MATLOCK are: i. MARY POLLY2 MATLOCK, m. JOHN WYETTE, 13 June 1806, Washington County, Kentucky. ii. JOHN MATLOCK, b. Bef. 1784, Washington County, Kentucky; d. 1877, Arkansas or Pineville, Missouri; m. (1) MARY POLLY JEFFERSON, 18 May 1801, Washington County, Kentucky; b. 1788, Virginia; m. (2) SALLY ELIZABETH WHITE, 03 March 1798, Washington County, Kentucky. Notes for JOHN MATLOCK: John's attachment to this family is not proven. iii. ROBERT MATLOCK, b. 1785, Washington County, Kentucky; d. 1845, Crawford County, Missouri; m. MARY CARPENTER, 18 December 1805, Adair County, Kentucky; d. Aft. 1840, Crawford County, Missouri. iv. WILLIAM MATLOCK, b. 1792, Kentucky. v. THOMAS MATLOCK, b. 1793, Washington County, Kentucky; d. Bef. 1870; m. MARGARET ARTHUR, 19 July 1816, Washington County, Kentucky; b. 1798, Virginia; d. Aft. 1880, Missouri. 3 ISHAM ESAU, born 1782 in Virginia, son of Zachariah and Edith Matlock. The Best know of the bunch and I have little to add. 4 ISHAM MEDLOCK, born 1777 in Virginia. Married 1799 to Susannah Williams. They lived in the Greenville Dist. of S. 3. Wanda So sorry to here about you daughter!! Is she alright?? I know how it is with a grandson in the house and a teenager. MY parents' revenge for my difficulties. >From my copy of the census for 1850 I find: MATLOCK, Eleana 26, Diannah 20, Thomas FOROM 19,William MATLOCK 7, Andrew 5, Daniel 3, Louisa Jane 8/12, T T, Wh-892-134 And oddly enough living "next door" is: MATLOCK William 52, Susan 36, Eveline T. 17 James t. 22, Eleana WILLIAMS 9, Syntha 8, John F. SMITH, NC T, Wh-891-133 And from 1860: MATLOCK, E. D. 38 (m), Diannah 31, William 17. Andrew 15, Daniel, 13, Louiza J. 11, George 9. J. S. G. 4 (m), Eveline 3, Thomas 2/12, Thomas FARMER 30, Wh-147-69 MATLOCK William 62, Susan 47, Wh-149-70 Please note the inconsistencies in spelling Thomas Forom/Farmer and Louisa - Louiza. Even Diannah is spelled the way a southern tongue would give it three syllables Di - An - Nah. But who is Elkannah? I can only surmise that ELEANA and E. D. are one in the same family. I cited James and May as random examples of census takers ability to confuse the issue. "Jemima" is not the most common family name and she does not appear on the 1860 census for Tennessee. I would think that the possibilities are then that she moved, remarried and took another name, She died and the children went elsewhere or more census taker confusion. Jemima is not in the marriage records for Crawford County Missouri 1829-1855, Catahoula Parish La. 1837 - 1850, Illinois Statewide 11736 - 1900,or Stone County or Roane County or of several others. I hope you find something. If fact I can't find anybody with that name. Is Jemima a nickname or family name for something else. The Matlock - -Pettyjohn is a dead-end for my research as I have no idea who John Wesley belongs to Greenfield is Weakly County in West Tennessee, about 150 miles west of Nashville. If you have a suspect please let me know. This what I have on the Moore Matlock family in question Descendants of Moore Matlock Generation No. 1 1. As Always good to hear from you Please feel free to comment anytime Best Regards Joe Matlock JOE, GOOD TO HEAR FROM YOU AGAIN. AND HERE I AM AGAIN QUESTIONING SOME OF YOUR INFORMATION... SORRY IT'S TAKEN ME SO LONG TO GET BACK ON HERE. MY DAUGHTER WAS IN A CAR ACCIDENT EARLIER THIS WEEK AND I JUST HAVEN'T HAD TIME TO DO ANYTHING ON GENEALOGY UNTIL YESTERDAY.... STILL TRYING TO GET CAUGHT UP. WITH THE GRANDSON HERE NIGHT AND DAY IT MADE IT KIND OF HARD TO GET ANYTHING DONE.... I'LL TYPE MY RESPONSES IN CAPS AND WILL DELETE SOME OF THE OTHER INFORMATION THAT I DON'T HAVE SO I CAN'T COMMENT.... Wanda Good to hear form you again. My responses follow you comments Think you have two families together below that shouldn't be.... Jemima is not Jemima Eleanor as you have them... Census records 1850 TN, Humphreys Co, Hu-96-118; Luke Matlock, 44,TN; Eleanor 43,TN; John 19, William 16, Ellyann 12, Edward 9, Elizabeth 4, Thomas 1, Luke Matlock, 84. 1850 TN, Dickson Co, Jemima Matlock 40, E D 18, Absalom 4... Looks like Jemima is a widow. At this time I don't know who her husband was. FROM BRENDA BUT I ALSO HAVE THIS INFORMATION IN MY NOTES... 1850 TN, Humphreys Co, Hu-96-118 Luke Matlock, 44,TN; Eleanor 43 TN; John 19, William 16, Ellyann 12, Edward 9, Elzabeth 4, Thomas 1, Luke Matlock 84 Yes it appears that there should be two families. Absolom could have been dead by 1860 and ED could have left for White county, where find an E. D. Matlock living with his wife Diannah and children but they are also there in 1850 but listed as Eleanna not E. D. I BELIEVE THAT THE NAME THAT YOU HAVE FOR ELEANNA IS ELCANNA MISSPELLING FOR ELKANNAH.... WELL IF THIS IS SO.... THERE IS A WILLIAM MATLOCK THAT WAS 7 ON THE 1850 CENSUS WITH ELCANA AND DIANA. HOW CAN THE E D AND ELCANNA BE THE SAME. IN THE SAME CENSUS YEAR (1850) I HAVE HIM 18 ON THE CENSUS WITH JEMIMA......THEN YOU SAY HE IS WITH A WIFE WITH A 7 YEAR OLD SON IN THE SAME YEAR.... I THINK THESE ARE DIFFERENT PEOPLE.. MIGHT WANT TO CHECK THIS OUT..... In 1860 he is 38 years old born then about 1822. AGAIN IF HE IS 18 IN 1850 HOW CAN HE BE 38 IN 1860... THE ELCANNA AND DIANNAH ARE ON THE 1850 AS 26 AND 20 YEARS OF AGE AND THE 1860 CENSUS HAS THEM AS 31 ND 28. BUT DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THIS IS THE E D THAT IS WITH JEMIMA ON THE 1850 CENSUS. The closest Ed in the area is Edward MATLOCK (BENJAMIN9, LUKE8,) was born Abt. 1822 in Humphreys County, Tennessee. THE EDWIN OR EDWARD OF BENJAMIN WAS NOT IN TN IN 1850 I HAVE AN EDWIN BORN ABOUT 1822 FOR HIM; WHICH COULD EASILY BE EDWARD, E D OR EDWIN.. THERE IS SON OF BENJAMIN AS YOU SAY BUT HE WAS WITH HIS MOTHER CHARITY IN 1850 CENSUS IN DADE CO, MO. This is Luke 's (husband of Eleanor) brother's son and could have been living with the family. But why separate households? Maybe for the same reason that James in White county who is 11 years old and May 21 years old but show as living alone in Warren county are shown as head of house hold in the 1860 census. I HAVE THIS JAMES AND MAY AS BEING IN THE 1860 CENSUS (NOTE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SISTLER BOOK SAYS THAT * IN FRONT OF AN ENTRY INDICATES THAT THIS IS NOT THE ENTIRE HOUSEHOLD.). I NEED TO LOOK AT THE ACTUAL CENSUS AND SEE WHAT HOUSEHOLD THAT THEY ARE IN ARE CLOSE TOO. I got the Jemima Eleanor from correspondence with Michael E. Jaguars 5 June 1999. I have not found any support yet in the Choate family material but I am still looking. AS YOU FIRST POSTED THAT E D AND ABSALOM WERE CHILDREN OF THIS JEMIMA ELEANOR AND LUKE... WELL JEMIMA WAS WITH THE TWO CHILDREN IN 1850 IN DICKSON CO E D BEING 18; AND LUKE AND ELEANOR WERE ON THE 1850 CENSUS IN HUMPHREY'S CO. THEY ARE STILL THERE IN 1860 BUT THERE IS NO E D (being the right age for Jemima's child) OR ABSALOM. I HAVE JEMIMA'S E D AS BEING BORN 1832 AND I HAVE LUKE AND ELEANOR'S EDWARD BORN ABOUT 1841.. EDWARD IS 9 AND 19 IN THE 1850 AND THE 1860. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IF JEMIMA MATLOCK MARRIED SOMEWHERE IN MO, AR OR TN; BUT I HAVEN'T FOUND HER YET... I have him also: DAVID8 MATLOCK (WILLIAM JAMES7,) NO EVIDENCE TO POINT TO THE NAME BEING WILLIAM JAMES was born 20 October 1788 in Hawkins County, Tennessee, and died 10 March 1861 in Danville Hendricks County Indiana. He married NANCY ANGES LEE (THIS MARRIAGE DATE SHOULD BE 31 DECEMBER 1808 NOT 12 DEC 1808 )12 December 1808 in Roane County Tennessee, daughter of WILLIAM LEE and SARAH MCMULLIN. She was born 02 July 1789 in South Carolina, and died 15 November 1854 in Danville, Hendricks County, Indiana. I HAVE SOME OF THE SAME INFORMATION THAT YOU HAVE FOR THE JOHN WESLEY OF DAVID AND NANCY LEE MATLOCK.. I ALSO HAVE SOME OF THE SAME INFORMATION THAT YOU HAVE ON THE SMITH THAT MARRIED REBECCA LEVACY BUT I HAVE TO CHECK THIS... I HAVE THAT THEY MOVED TO AR BEFORE THE 1850 CENSUS.... 1. JOHN WESLEY1 MATLOCK was born 10 December 1852 in Tennessee, and died 04 January 1906 in Greenfield, Tennessee. He is buried in the Brock Cemetery in Greenfield Tennessee. He married SUSAN ROSA BELL PETTYJOHN 14 December 1875 in Obion County, Tennessee. HAVE NEVER RAN ACROSS THIS FAMILY BEFORE. HOWEVER, THERE IS AN A C MATTOX WHO HAS A SON JOHN W WHO IS 7 YEARS OLD IN SUMNER CO 1860 CENSUS.... COULD THIS BE THE ONE.... This accounts for both Smith's: SMITH10 MATLOCK (SMITH9, JOHN WESLEY8, MOORE7,) was born 1824 in Perry County Tennessee, and died 10 March 1906 in Marion County, Arkansas.. He married (1) LETSIE SHELTON. She was born in Perry County, Tennessee, and died 1862 in Marion County, Arkansas. This couple is buried in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. He married (2) EMALINE JACOB. He married (3) HARRIET HAMM 18 April 1871 in Marion County, Arkansas, daughter of MATHEW HAMM and CAROL BRIDGEMAN. She was born 07 February 1838 in Marion County, Illinois, and died 10 August 1905. Notes for SMITH MATLOCK: In 1850 this family is listed as Mattock and in living in Perry County, Tennessee. More About SMITH MATLOCK: Military service: War Between the States PVT CSA I DON'T HAVE THE MARRIAGE OR THE CHILDREN OF THE JOHN WHO IS SON OF MOORE. I BELIEVE THAT JOHN DOES HAVE A SON 10-15 ON THE 1830 CENSUS FOR OVERTON CO... THAT IS WHERE MOORE DIED, RIGHT. NOTE: Overton Co, 1830 census: Living in the same area as Moore are William, Valentine, Absolom, Isaac, John, Landon, Thomas, Overton.. DO YOU HAVE THESE CHILDREN AS MOORE'S.... PS maybe when Brenda publishes the rest of the census we can sort this out a little better. I HAVE ALL THE 1850 AND 1860 TN CENSUS RECORDS IN MY NOTES. WHETHER THE PERSON IS TIED TO ANYONE OR NOT.. I JUST DON'T HAVE ALL THE AR OR MO CENSUS RECORDS AS OF YET. STILL WORKING ON THOSE... MAYBE ONE OF THESE DAYS... THAT'S ALL FOR NOW... TAKE CARE WANDA
