All the info that went with that Zachariah was ok except for his father and down on the line. Can you give me the correct line of my Zachariah? (His ancestors) Is it Zachariah (John III, John II, John I,) I received this morning the following from my PRINCE researcher. He said he obtained his information from an article found in a History of Caldwell Co, KY that he found in Shreveport, LA library. He beleived it was a heritage book. Under article number 45, entitled JOHN CLARK PRINCE, written by Frances Shore. Ms. Shore said her sources were the Matlock Bible, Rev. War Pension Papers and Caldwell County Court records. She wrote the following: JOHN CLARK PRINCE (ca.1170-1835) was a nephew of (Captain)Prince, for whom Princeton , KY was named. His parents were Henry Prince and Janet (others say Jennet) McElhenny. Both Henry and his father John Prince of Prince's Fort, were in the Revolution. Henry served in the siege of Augusta and the siege of Ninety-Six. He died in Greenville District, SC in August 1835. Henry and his son JOHN CLARK PRINCE held original surveys for land in Caldwell Co., KY, dated 1798 and 1800. Thomas Gregory of Livingston County gave permission for his daughter to marry JOHN PRINCE. It appears that there were no children. JOHN C. PRINCE acted as surveyor of county roads, as deputy clerk. In 1819, JOHN C. PRINCE married NANCY MATLOCK (1784-1824), daughter of ZACHARIAH MATLOCK (died 1827) and LUCY WASH. Both were from Louisa Co., VA. Other Matlock children were: JOHN MATLOCK, born 1788; MARY MATLOCK, born 1791; ELIZABETH MATLOCK, born 1793; SUSANNAH MATLOCK, born 1797; and THOMAS MATLOCK, born 1807. ZACHARIAH MATLOCK served in the Virginia State Line and was at the battle of Brandywine. While in service he contracted small pox. LUCY received a widow's pension No. W8420. The MATLOCK had come to Caldwell Co., KY before July 1801. NANCY MATLOCK PRINCE died in 1824, leaving two young boys, WILLIAM HENRY PRINCE, born 1819 and JOHN CLARK PRINCE, (JR.) born 1822. JOHN CLARK PRINCE (SR.) died in August 1835, within two days of his father Henry Prince. After his mother's death, JOHN CLARK PRINCE (JR.) probably lived with his MATLOCK grandparents. The early Matlock families were Quakers and that Quaker influence appears strong in JOHN CLARK PRINCE'S family. His uncle THOMAS MATLOCK, organized the Blue Spring Baptist Church near Caldwell, Trigg and Lyon Counties. My Prince researcher noted that he did not copy this article word for word, but beleives he as accurately covered the important parts. He added the Sr. and Jr. for clarity. What do you think of the above? Do you have anything to add? However, I do not have a Nancy listed on my computer so I don't know if they had a Nancy or not. I do know that the Zachariah in TN had a daughter Nancy. She did not marry a Prince... So if Lee-Anne has information that says that the daughter of Zachariah and Lucy was Nancy that married Prince. Then we need to check this out. We are all after all on a joint search for our family to which you now hold a key. I can't tell you now many times one small bit of information from a new member has turned around months of discussion (just look up the "Littleberry" discussion) and we all in honestly welcome a fresh mind and new information. 2. I was thinking that the Zachariah in Louisa Co was the son of John and the Grandson to George. Are we certain that the Zachariah that Married Nancy Wash is the son of Moore? I know that in 1790 Zachariah and his wife was named in David Wash Will. And as for Moore, the one that died in TN. doesnt appear to have been in Louisa Co Not that I suppose that would Matter... Let me know.. So I can take Zachariah and Nancy off of Johns and Georges Chart... Brenda

This is the JOHN CLARK PRINCE 11 b. 1822 that I mentioned earlier, son of Nancy Matlock. I know that on some of the censuses it showed Matlocks living with the Prince family's. Do you have any information from books, official documents etc. that I could get a copy of? I will gladly pay costs. Again, thanks so much!! If there is anything I can help you with, please ask! 3. Hi Sue - Sorry it has taken me so long to answer your question about Joab's family. I'm afraid none of my info is "proven" except that Steven's descendants know Joab was his father. The others have been deduced, and therefore, could be incorrect, but I show 1) John, [email protected], possibly in Hancock Co., 2) your Charles, b. @ 1810 3) William b. @1810 4) Sarah (Sally) b. @ 1814 5) Steven, b. 1821 (my gg grandfather) 6) George, b. @ 1824 7) Martha, b. @1827. All I know of Joab's wife is that her name in the Census was Mary - have never been able to find her surname. Joab seems to disappear between 1850 and 1860. The family (and local) legend is that he was murdered and mutilated by some local outlaws, sometimes identified as the Howard's, and that his body was thrown into a sinkhole. I have been to the so-called Joab Hole in Rose Hill, Lee Co VA, but have never been able to substantiate any of this with documentation. I believe he was a sheriff, so it is possible that was related to the incident. I would love to have some help and information on this. I also have a theory, again unproven, that Joab's mother was a Sharp, possibly the daughter of Benjamin Sharp who also lived in Lee Co VA, since one of Joab's siblings was named Benjamin Sharp Matlock. Do you have any ideas about that? Again, my apologies for the delay. Brenda Matlock Curtis Irvine CA
