Enumerator could've taken it down wrong, a neighbor could've given info, etc. I had one relative that drove me up a wall - different birthplace every census - finally found his mom's info saying she came to US in 1828(found it in two different documents) - so that means he(her son) was born here and I just couldn't find his birth rec in Mass.
