He was the only son of Deacon John Bailey and Jane (Bradley) Curtis. He married Susan Riley 07 Mar 1817 Westbrook, Maine, USA, daughter of John Riley and Mary Hanson. She was born 25 Mar 1791 in Dover, Strafford, NH USA, and died 05 Jun 1871 in Boston, Ma USA.I believe they had at least three children. Daughter - 1)Susan Elizabeth Bailey, born 1825 in Portland, Cumberland, Maine USA; died 09 Dec 1885 in Cambridge, Worcester, Ma USA. She married (1) Hazen Kimball Riley 07 Nov 1842 in Boston, MA USA; born 1820 in New Hampshire. She married (2) John Clement Sargent 26 Apr 1863 in Boston, MA USA; born 1826 in Grantham, NH USA; died 08 Jan 1888 in Cambridge, Worcester, Ma USA. Son - 2)Benjamin Bailey, born 05 Jun 1826 in Portland, Cumberland, Maine USA; died 23 Mar 1898 in Victoria, BC, Canada. He married Sarah Margaret Patterson 26 Jun 1855 in San Fransisco, Ca, USA; born 30 Apr 1838 in Hobart, Tasmania; died 23 Sep 1924 in Victoria, BC, Canada. Daughter - 3)Julia Adelaide Bailey, born 1828 in Portland, Cumberland, Maine USA. She married James M. Drew 14 Jul 1852 in Dover, New Hampshire USA; born 1825 in Grantham, NH USA; died 25 Dec 1891 in Boston, Ma USA. 1830 Census Dover, NH Susan Bailey (mother) is a widow with one male under 5, 2 females under 9 1833 Directory Dover, NH Susan Bailey widow, near Academy, Waldron St 1850 Boston Census Ward 10 living with a family of Merill's Susan Bailey, Susan E Bailey (daughter), Julia A Bailey (daughter) and children, John H Riley, Ada J Riley, Stella C Riley. Please note her daughter Susan E Bailey married a Riley (possibly a cousin??) Susan E Bailey is not her sister. 1860 Census Boston Ward 11 Susan is living with her daughter Julia A Drew and her family 1870 Census Ward 1, Susan Bailey is living with her daughter Julia A Drew and family. Benjamin Bailey (Jr) traveled to San Francisco from Boston March 1 1849 to Aug 3 1849 on board the ship "Sweden". James M Drew, his brother-in-law (husband of sister - Julia A Bailey) was on the same ship. Hazen Kimball Riley his other brother-in-law (husband of sister - Susan E Bailey)was found in the San Francisco Directory 1850. I am searching to find the obituaries of Susan (Riley) Bailey d June 5 1871 or Benjamin Bailey d March 18 1828) in hopes of clarifying the parentage of my Benjamin Bailey and the tie between his siblings, Susan E Bailey and Julia Adelaide Bailey.
