    1. [MASUFFOL] need to find researcher in Boston
    2. Dora Smith
    3. I need to find a researcher to do a fairly extensive lookup in the state vital records office for me. I tried one of the national genealogical society web sites, and noone I contacted has gotten back to me. They all seemed a bit high fallutin for the sort of research I want, with published books and all that. I don't want my famous family researched, I need my mother in law's mother's death or marriage record in five counties near Northampton sometime since 1946, sometime in the next couple of weeks. I need a researcher who bothers with that kind of thing. I called the Boston public library, and spoke to someone in the social sciences section as apparently the Boston public library doesn't have enough genealogical material to merit a separate genealogy section. Librarian said we don't maintain any list of researchers, I have to look on one of two web sites of national genealogical associations, and what is more, Boston doesn't even have a local genealogical society! I mean, come on, even Austin, Texas, has one of them. Can someone please recommend someone who can do my lookup. Thanks! 3. Hi, Dora- Boston does have a genealogical society - here is the website. http://www.newenglandancestors.org/ Here is the website for some researchers -you might check them out http://www.mass-doc.com/vitals_before_1841.htm Also, the Mass. Archives is a wonderful resource, but if you need info quickly, it won't work for you right now. The Mass. State Library is also a great place -they are limited for staff, but they may be able to help you. http://www.mass-doc.com/vitals_before_1841.htm Good luck, Ann

    3. I would suggest getting in contact with the Boston collage and find a collage student who would like a little spending money. Almost all the researchers that I have seen for the Boston area want 25.00 an hour plus gas money and also a fee on top of that. 3. Dear Dora: Boston has the oldest genealogical society in the country, The New England Historic Genealogical Society, est. 1847. Their website is www.newenglandancestors.org. They have the vital records indexes through the 1950s for births, and through the 1970s for marriages and deaths. Someone could look up the citation in the index and your best (and cheapest) bet would be to write to the individual town/city hall for the certificate if it is found in the index. Otherwise, you will be incurring costs for someone to go to the Mass. Vital Records office, pay $9 per hour to look through the records, etc., and get a certified copy (the only type they issue) for $18 on-site. Via mail the certificates from the Vital Records office are $29.00. Ancestry.com has Massachusetts deaths to 1970. Have you tried the SSDI to ascertain her death? I'm assuming that if you are looking in 5 counties near Northhampton, you would be looking in Berkshire, Franklin, Hampshire, Hampden, and Worcester. Have you tried genealogical societies or USGenWeb sites for those counties in Massachusetts (www.usgenweb.org)? Best of luck in your search. I am sorry that you have had no luck in your contacts.
