    3. Brian, Which Southie McCarthy's are you familiar with? The sponsor of my grandmother to the US had a grandson named Joseph McCarthy, born 20 March 1915 to John McCarthy and Josephine Monaghan. Supposedly the birth occurred in Boston per his death record. I haven't found the marriage of John to Josephine, nor the birth of Joseph. As yet, I don't know what happened with John and Josephine, but Joseph McCarthy was living with his grandmother Mary Harrington in the 1930 census in Southie on 66 Baxter Street. Joseph McCarthy served in WWII as a fuel handler and most likely died of lead poisoning on 16 March 1946. He married Ethel McLeod in 1940 and had three daughters. Last my aunts knew, Ethel and the daughters moved to Florida and they believe Ethel remarried. My aunts recently gave me a pictures of John McCarthy, Joseph and his wife Ethel, and their three children. Are you familiar with this family? Sue Richart Chewelah, Washington State Thankfully, living in a part of the state that didn't get as much damage in the recent winter storm. 3. Sue: My uncle Dan McCarthy (1876-1958) lived and died n Southie. He was the only one of my Dads's 13 siblings to live in Southie. He married Margbart Fogarty, of Canadian background. Their children's names were: Joe, Dan, Mary, Adelaide, John and Vincent. All but Vincent are dead. Vincent lives in San Bernardino, CA. One of John's daughters lives on 8th Street, and the Baxter St. address does not ring a bell, nor does the name Monaghan. Based on this, I do not see a close McCarthy connection. Of course, ALL McCarthys come out of Cork or Kerry. My conclusion is that there is not a workable connection. Glad to see you did not get decked with thqat storm. One branch of it is , as I type, coming in off the Pacific, about 20 seconds walk from this cottage. I'm heading inland to a Christmas party! :Brian >From: "Sue Richart" <[email protected]> >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [MASUFFOL] Boston Pronounciations >Date: Sat, 16 Dec 2006 15:06:33 -0800 > >Brian, >Which Southie McCarthy's are you familiar with? > >The sponsor of my grandmother to the US had a grandson named Joseph >McCarthy, born 20 March 1915 to John McCarthy and Josephine Monaghan. >Supposedly the birth occurred in Boston per his death record. 3. Brian, Thanks. I might ask later for your father's siblings to eliminate them from my search. As you noted earlier, there were/are a lot of McCarthys in the Boston area. Now, I don't want folks to think the eastern side of Washington didn't get damage. There continues to be over 10,000 in the Inland Empire (Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho area) without power and a number of structures damaged. It was just not as bad as the western side. Where I live the Huckleberry Mountains just to the west blocked a lot of the worst winds, so we lucked out. 3. As long as we're tossing out McCarthys, mine were also from South B. Jeremiah, [email protected], Ireland, m. Ellen Barry, [email protected] 1813, Ireland. They came to Boston in 1848, with the following children: Timothy, age 9, John, age 5, Jeremiah, age 3, Bartholomew, age 1. The following children were born after their arrival: Catherine, 1850, Margaret, 1852, and William, 1856. Catherine married John Danker, Margaret m. William H. O'Connor. Beyond that I can't find any marriages. Any connections would be welcome! Ann

    3. Hi Ann, Looks like your John McCarthy is too old for the one I'm looking for. Unless he ends up being the son of one of yours. My John J. McCarthy is listed as age 19 born in Massachusetts per the 1910 census living in the same household (139 Tudor Street) as Josephine and her mother and step-father Cornelius Harrington, siblings, and step-siblings. He and Josephine Monaghan have their son, Joseph in 1914 per his . If they married, than it would have been probably 1913 or 1914, but I can't find it. Nor, can I find them in the 1920 or 1930 census. Best of luck on your McCarthy hunt.
