    1. [MASUFFOL] Mary Ann [NICHOLS] ESTY - Death

    3. Hi All, This is my first posting and hope someone can help. I'm looking for my Great Great Grandmother, Mary Ann Nichols (1820 - ????) who married Jonathan? Esty. According to the 1870 Census she was living in Lawrence, Middlesex County, MA with her two children Joseph and Mary. I haven't been able to find her in the 1880 census but her daughter Mary was in Lancaster, Worcester County, MA. I found a death record for Mary Ann Esty in Lancaster in Oct 1887 which could be my GG Grandmother but nothing in the record gives personal information: [Death Record: 4 Oct 1887 Mrs. Mary A. Esty female age 64 of Lancaster, Mass Cause of death: Abdominal Hernier under this is written 12 Oct Buried: Mt.[St] Benadict, Boston [could be Mt. Benadict Cemetery in Boston which I believe may be Mt. Benedict's in West Roxbury] I'm looking for any help to get more information on this death. Is anyone familiar with the Mt. Benedict's Cemetery and if I could get burial records and how. To me it was curious that she wouldn't have been buried in Lancaster where she died. My thoughts are that maybe her parents or husband was buried in Mt. Benedict's or maybe that is the Cemetery that Roman Catholics would have used in Lancaster especially if they were poor. Also if someone goes to the Lancaster or Boston library I would appreciate a look up for a possible obit or funeral announcement. (Died Oct 4 1887, Buried Oct 12 1877) One last thought. I have another ancestor that died in 1904 in Boston, temporarily buried in a tomb in her hometown of Stoneham for the winter and then moved to Leominster for the burial in the spring. Death Records were issued in all three places and only 2 were identical. Could another death record exist? I checked the Massachusetts Vital Records, 1841-1910 on the New England Ancestors.org but only found the one for Lancaster. Is there a place to check for West Roxbury and Boston Records from 1887 rather than depending on that site. Val

    3. The phone number for Mt. Benedict Cemetery is 617-323-8389. You might get some information from them. The City of Boston Cemetery Dept. is 617-635-7361 or Lancaster Town Hall (I don't see that they have a Cemetery Dept.) is 978-368-1528. Hope this helps.
