    3. Dear Bobbie and other listers, I received this query from Bobbie about 1848 images. Since I've had something similar before, replying to Bobbie and the two lists seems a good idea. Basically, when you are searching from 1841-1849, you need to expand your query to cover a two-year period. In this case, these are with a few exceptions, all listed as 1848-49. There will be some only listed for one year, but they are very much the exception. To see what I mean, query for Boston, volume 41 and just 1848. You'll get one entry. If you change the query to start year 1848 and end year 1849, you will get 5,400 entries. I might suggest you don't all do the second query, because it will really bog down the system. I'm not sure all of the reasons why there is sometimes only a single year listed, but for the few I've seen, it is usually a late registration. Also note, late registrations starting past about 1870 will often times not be connected to the image. One of the problem errors I've been correcting are connecting the late registration entries. Usually you can tell if there are a few entries for a page all with the same surname but different years or there are a number of entries on the page with a wide variety of years. The rest of the time they are scanning errors or column shifts. I've done probably 50,000 corrections and I can't tell for sure without checking the image. I strongly urge that when you come across an "image not available" you query then only for the volume and page number. Often enough, one or more of the entries for that page will be connected. 3. Hi, Sue- I've been cruising around the NEHGS, and have found one piece of information that seemed to be a brick wall - I found my grandmother's birth record! I've been looking for years based on the birth years that show up on most of her documents -1875 -1878-no one could find it -that's because she was born in 1874! I stumbled across it by looking for her parents' names. Now I need to find her first marriage - the NEGHS site is struggling right now, and I can't get to any pages. There was one MARY A. O'CONNOR listed in Vol. 503, pg # 236, but it says that no image is available, so even when the pages are opening that page won't be there. Could I beg a lookup for her marriage? I'm not sure that the one I've cited is the right one, but it's got to be there somewhere. Her info - Mary Ann O'Connor - b. Dec. 16, 1874-born in Boston. Parents - William H. O'Connor Margaret L. McCarty/McCarthy Mary was living with her mother in 1900, and was listed as a saleswoman. She was also using the name O'Connor. She married my grandfather in 1903 -I have that record. The first marriage may have taken place between 1894 (based on her birthday) and 1900, with a divorce and a return to a maiden name OR between 1900 and 1903, with the same scenario. She was Mary A. O'Connor when she married my grandfather in 1903, with a note on the record that hers was a second marriage with a divorce. If you can find that first marriage, I can probably find the divorce record. I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks, Ann

    3. Ann, There is more than one Mary A. O'Connor listed on the actual index, but I can't seem to get in the database either. When it isn't quite so slow, I'll do some checking. I can't guarantee anything, since marriages have the most truly missing images, particularly the time frame you are looking at.
