I've "rescued" an old photograph identified only as "NICKERSON" which was taken at the Jones Studio in Providence, Rhode Island. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1870's with the young man in the photograph likely in his 20's at the time it was taken. The photograph was recovered along with others belonging the Class of 1878 at Brown University. In researching that class I did find information regarding Stephen Westcott NICKERSON who was a member of that Class at Brown University. I believe that this is a photograph of him. I gathered the following information in census records: 1860 census of Brookline, MA: Thomas NICKERSON, age 32, a Merchant, born MA Martha NICKERSON, age 28, born MA Gertrude NICKERSON, age 8, born MA Stephen NICKERSON, age 4, born MA - Twin Archibald NICKERSON, age 4, born MA - Twin Thomas NICKERSON, age 2, born MA + 1 Coachman + 3 Servants 1870 census of Boston, MA: Thomas NICKERSON, age 44, a Grocer, born MA Gertrude NICKERSON, age 17, at Home, born MA A. S. NICKERSON, age 13, at School, born MA Stephen W. NICKERSON, age 13, at School, born MA Thomas W. NICKERSON Jr., age 11, at School, born MA Philip T. NICKERSON, age 7, at School, born MA + 4 Servants 1880 census of Providence, RI: Archibald NICKERSON, age 23, born MA, parents born MA Stephen W. NICKERSON, brother, age 23, born MA, Studying Law, parents born MA 1900 census of Boston, MA: - lodging in the home of Margaret CHEEVER Stephen NICKERSON, age 43, born Jan 1857, born MA, parents born MA, a Lawyer 1910 census of Winthrop, MA: Stephen NICKERSON, age 53, born MA, parents born MA, Retired + 1 Secretary + 1 Housekeeper I am hoping to locate someone from his family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

My family also lived in Cappayuse and my grandmother was Catherine (Ryan) Mulvey. My aunt, Kate Mulvey, came to the USA in 1909 and on the ship's manifest it states that she was going to stay with her cousin, Patrick Ryan, in Cambridge. Any possibility he would be your Thomas' brother? On the other side of the family, my great grandmother was Margaret Naughton, also from the same area of the Parish of Moore in Roscommon. My family came from Scotland in the mid 1920's - on my Mom's side. Dad's side came down from Nova Scotia also in the mid 1920's. I'll have to look into hubby's side - they settled in Reading @1700 but I believe may have been in Saugus first. It's been quite sometime since I did anything on his side. Have a good night!! I was browsing around this family last night. I found an obit for Ada Riley Nutting in San Francisco. It stated that she came for San Francisco from NH in 1848 on an ox cart. I thought this was interesting since you stated Ben Bailey Jr and James Drew were listed on a passenger list c. 1850. I thought at first Hazen Riley must have taken the two oldest children and ran off to SF but ... In 1860, Tolland CT, John C Sargent, Hazen K Riley, Susan E Riley and children are all living together. In the Mass 1865 census, John Sargent and Susan are married with a 4 year old son. I'm very intrigued by this story. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
