The few pieces of evidence would seem to point to Boston Mass and not England though. Both John's 1910 census and his younger sister Ellen, Ellen Jones on the census, are pretty clear in the field that holds fathers birthplace. Both say Massachusetts. John's is from Whitehall New York and Ellen's from Manhattan New York. On the Washington County Marriage register Johns marriage to Beatrice F Boss in 191 clearly lists Boston as his fathers birthplace. On many other things the records are vague or contradictory, but it seems pretty clear that they at least think their father was born in the U.S. I have ordered the death record from England for William Boss, john's father. Hopefully that will have something on it to help. Bob Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. sorry adoption 1938. I was having a look at the Hugo family from Everett. I thought I found what you were looking for, but realize its not. Olive Hugo gave for adoption twin girls in 1983. Olive's sister Mildred had a daughter named Janet. Getting closer?

Also remember that the info is only as good as who gives it and census info, I've found is horrible as far as giving correct parent's info - I had a relative(don't know if he gave wrong info or didn't really care about the info or what)but his parent's info would change from each census. I've "rescued" an old photograph identified only as "BLISS" which was taken at the Jones Studio in Providence, Rhode Island. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1870's with the man in the photograph likely in his 20's or 30's at the time it was taken. The photograph was recovered along with others belonging to students and faculty from the Class of 1878 at Brown University. In researching that class I do find Frederick Wright BLISS included, so I'm assuming that this is a photograph of him. Based on limited research and thanks to a BLISS Family Researcher I was able to locate the following information regarding Frederick and his family: Frederick or Frederic Wright BLISS was b. 14 Oct 1852 in Rehoboth, MA, the son of Cyrus Wheaton BLISS and Hannah T. MUNROE or MONROE. He received degrees from both Brown University and Boston University, was a practicing lawyer and legislator and lived in Boston, MA most of his adult life. Census records provide the following detail: 1860 census of Rehoboth, MA: Cyrus W. BLISS, age 37, a Farmer, born MA Hannah BLISS, age 32, born MA Frederic W. BLISS, age 7, born MA George D. BLISS, age 4, born MA John C. PIKE, age 54, born MA Cyrus BLISS, age 74, born MA Joanna MASON, age 84, born MA Joanna GRANT, age 63, born MA 1870 census of Rehoboth, MA: Cyrus BLISS, age 47, a Farmer, born MA Hannah BLISS, age 42, Keeping House, born MA Frederick BLISS, age 17, at Home, born MA George BLISS, age 14, born MA John PIKE, age 64, a Farm Laborer, born MA 1880 census of Rehoboth, MA: Cyrus W. BLISS, son, age 24, born MA, a Laborer 1910 census of Boston, MA: Hannah T. BLISS, age 82 Frederick W. BLISS, age 57 George D. BLISS, age 54 Mary JENNINGS, age 23 1920 census of Boston, MA: George D. If this is the Archives.com that I think it is, you can forget getting any MA vital records. They sold their entire MA VR to an unknown company. I just e-mailed them the other day. I asked for the name of the company and was told that they wish to remain anonymous. The word is that they are going to put all of the records online. My guess is that it will become another pay site. Archives.com had a very good collection of MA VRs on microfiche. This included a lot of towns that have never had their records published. Especially those of the four western counties of Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden & Hampshire. Hi - when I look for someone on findagrave.com and they aren't there, I sometimes get an ad for Archives.com. does anyone use this site, and does it actually have data? or is it just an index? it gives the impression that it has more recent vital stats than other online sites. I'd like to hear of others experiences with it. thanks

The British 1901 census lists him as born in Dublin Ireland. An extensive search of the available records from Ireland fail to find him or his father John Boss (listed on the wedding record). Looking at his children, my grandfather included, finds an interesting bit. On the U.S. 1910 census, both my grandfather, John Boss, and his sister, Ellen Jones, list that their father, William my great grandfather, ws actually born in Massachusetts. John even states on the Washington County New York wedding register that his father, William, was born in Boston Mass. So fasr I have been unable to locate any record of a Wiliam or John Boss in the Boston area about 1850. I know there are several Boss families in Mass in the mid 1800's. I just can not tie either William or John to them. Any ideas? Was it common for s person to leave the states and move to Englang at the time? William and his son John, my grandfather, we both mariners. I suspect the the family were also. So Boston and Liverpool both make sense. I know that William was in Liverpool, when not at sea, from at least 1874 to 1935. He was at sea from about 1874 till 1901. His wife had died in 1900 and then he stayed at home to take care of a daughter. Bob Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I've "rescued" two RICKER Family Photographs. The first is one of Frederick S. RICKER which was taken at the Cross Photo Studio in Salem, Massachusetts. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's or 1890's with Frederick likely in his 20's at the time. The second photograph is one of Florence RICKER of Portland, ME and was taken at the Lamson Studio in that city. This photograph also appears to have been taken in the 1880's or 1890's with Florence likely in her teens or 20's at the time. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding the RICKER Family pictured in the photographs: Florence RICKER was b. 24 Aug 1860 in Portland, ME to parents Joseph S. RICKER (b. 19 May 1821 in Lebanon, ME) and Jane HUNTRESS (b. 6 Jan 1820 in Barnstead, NH). Florence was one of 4 children born to this couple including, Freeman Alonzo; Eldora; Florence; and Caroline RICKER, born in Ossipee, NH and Portland, ME between 1849 and 1864. Florence first married Frederick W. HOBSON (b. 3 Jun 1852 in Portland, ME) on 7 Jan 1885 in Deering, ME. Florence's second marriage was to Stephen BARTLETT (b. 6 May 1858 in Boston, MA) on 4 Jun 1895. Census records provide the following information: 1870 census or Portland, ME: J. S. RICKER, age 49, a Farmer, born ME Jane RICKER, age 50, Keeps House, born ME Freeman RICKER, age 20, born NH Florence RICKER, age 9, born ME Carrie RICKER, age 6, born ME + 1 Laborer and 2 Domestic Servants 1900 census of Haverhill, MA: Robert CLARK, age 74, born May 1826, married 45 years, born MA, parents born MA, a Felt Shoe Maker Sarah M. CLARK, wife, age 65, born Jun 1835, married 45 years, 3 children/2 living, born NH, parents born NH Annie M. RICKER, dau, age 43, born Oct 1856, married 28 years, 2 children/1 living, born NH, a Housekeeper George B. CLARK, son, age 28, born Nov 1871, born MA, a Shoe Beater Fred R. RICKER, grandson, age 22, born Jun 1877, born MA, parents born MA/NH, a Shoe Finisher + 1 Lodger 1920 census of Haverhill, MA: Annie M. RICKER, age 64, a widow, born MH, parents born MA/NH Frederick RICKER, son, age 44, born MA, parents born MA/NH, a Bobbin Finisher + 3 Boarders I am hoping to be able to locate someone from the family so that these wonderful old photographs can be returned to their rightful place, with family.
